CHARLOTTE, NC. History has been made at the “Gateway to the Queen City.” In a historic first for Johnson C. Smith University, first cousins Islaea Laloni Anderson and Suraya Hodges have been elected to lead the 2026-2027 Student Government Association as President and Vice President.

FROM THE NORTH STAR TO THE GOLDEN BULL. Hailing from Saint Paul, Minnesota, this dynamic duo is bringing “Twin Cities” excellence to the South. Their journey from the 651 to the center of Smith Island is a testament to the power of family, vision, and shared ambition.

MEET THE PRESIDENT-ELECT. Islaea Laloni Anderson (left) has been officially elected as the SGA President for the 2026-2027 academic year. A Psychology scholar with a minor in Criminal Justice and a member of the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Islaea is a Ronald E. McNair Scholar who currently serves as the 81st SGA Vice President. She is prepared to advocate for justice and meaningful change before pursuing her career as a criminal justice lawyer.

MEET THE VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT. Suraya Hodges (right) will transition from her reign as Sophomore Class Vice President to serve as the 82nd SGA Vice President. A Biology scholar with dual minors in Sociology and Chemistry, Suraya is a powerhouse on campus. From her role as President of Mellow Minds to her work with Black Girls Vote, she is a future Podiatrist focused on healing and uplifting the student body.

A NEW TRADITION. While many administrations talk about “family,” Islaea and Suraya are literally bringing it to the office. This election concluded in a decisive victory, proving that the JCSU student body is ready to be led by blood, brilliance, and a commitment to the Gold and Blue.

Congratulations to the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect! The legacy starts now.
