Dear 35,

You arrived quietly, but I have a feeling you’re going to be loud in all the right ways.
At 35, I’m not chasing every clock, every expectation, or every version of myself that was built to make other people comfortable. This year, I’m choosing to be bolder, softer where it matters, stronger where it counts, and unapologetically myself. The woman God created me to be doesn’t need shrinking, explaining, or editing.
I want this year to be less about rushing to the next milestone and more about slowing down enough to enjoy the view. To notice the sunsets. To laugh longer at dinner tables. To celebrate ordinary Tuesdays. To stop treating joy like something waiting for me in the future and start recognizing it in the life I already have.
I’m learning that life isn’t a race I’m trying to win. It’s a gift I’m trying to experience.
So here’s to trusting God more deeply and fearing less boldly.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

This year I will pursue life without fear of getting it wrong, fear of disappointing people, or fear of being “too much.” Maybe I am too much—too excited about Christmas in June, too sentimental over dogs, too dramatic over a beautiful sunset, too passionate about little things—and honestly, I think I’m okay with that now.
At 35, I want to love well and love deeply.
I want to love my husband James with my whole heart, building a life filled with laughter, faith, and the kind of memories we’ll tell stories about years from now. I want to love Archie with the same ridiculous devotion that makes me narrate his thoughts in different voices and take entirely too many pictures of him sleeping in weird positions.
I want to protect my sense of wonder.
To dance in the kitchen.
To laugh until I cry.
To buy the flowers.
To take the picture.
To say the prayer.
To enjoy the moment while I’m standing in it instead of wishing myself somewhere else.
Because what a privilege it is to be alive.
Thirty-five, I don’t need you to be perfect. I just need you to be present.
