Every Curl Has a StOrí.

There are conversations that happen in my chair that are so profound, they stay with me long after the appointment ends.

Sometimes it's a milestone someone is celebrating. Sometimes it's a small realization. About who they were before, and who they are now.

Sometimes it's something they've spent years learning to let go of. I see growth beyond their hair.

We come together because of hair. But somewhere between the shampoo, the cut, and the styling, I get to see little pieces of people's lives.

And I've been thinking about how much of that never makes it into a beautiful after photo.

So I'm starting something new.
StOríes. An original series by ORÍ.

A voice-led visual diary of the people, moments, memories, and conversations behind the curls.
Not just how their hair looks.
The journey that brought them here.

Our first StOrí begins with Henry, a photo in Nashville, and a conversation that made me see that photo differently.

In Yoruba philosophy, Orí literally means "head", but it is far more than just the physical head.

Your Orí Òde, the outer head, is your physical identity – your skull, your presence in this material world.

It's a reflection of your Orí Inú, the inner head (your spiritual self, your consciousness, your character, your destiny).

The two are always in conversation.

There’s dimension. And then there’s The Art of Dimension.

The traditional definition is a measurement of the size of an object in a specific direction, such as length, width, height, or depth– according to Dictionary.com

The art is knowing that the light is only as beautiful as the depth you’re willing to preserve. It trains the eye where to travel.

The art is knowing where light will have the greatest effect, and having the ultimate discipline and discernment to leave depth where light will have meaning.

It's not just applying highlights, but choreographing a deliberate visual rhythm as the eye travels. It's creating dimension that moves.

Here, the light isn't repetitive. It varies.

Some ribbons whisper.
Some hold more weight.
And the deeper areas give the eye somewhere to rest before the next bit of light appears.

That interval is what turns straight, still hair into something with motion. Not movement from the hair itself, or the style of curls, but movement in how the eye travels through it — depth, light, depth, light — the same principle that gives rhythm to music, or flow to a brushstroke.

Highlights are a technique. This is composition.

We’re creating the first body of work for ORÍ.
Ahead of Opening Season, we’re selecting a small number of models for the work at the heart of the salon:

We’re looking for hair with a story to tell, whether that means a new shape, a thoughtful color direction, a beautifully designed extension transformation, or simply seeing what healthy, well-treated hair can do.

Selected models will receive a special rate and will be photographed and filmed as part of ORÍ’s opening portfolio.

This is a curated opportunity. Selection is based on your hair, desired direction, availability, and the work we’re currently looking to create.

I prayed... I went out on a limb, and I got the keys!

Peace and blessings manifest
with every lesson learned

Every setback was a blessing, and every blessing was a lesson

If your knowledge were your wealth
then it would be well-earned

22 years behind the chair– the lessons, the education, the teaching. Years of learning what the work requires technically, creatively, and personally.. Knowledge - Wisdom- Understanding represents a complete circle.

🎵 I was born under waterrr with three dollars and six times. Yea, you may laugh, cuz you did not do your math.

The Mathematics: My conception not only began on Maracas Beach in Trinidad— 22 years ago I started
behind the chair on 15th and U.

Then Georgia Avenue, including a salon across from Howard’s School of Business. Then, 9th and U.

I left. I grew. I taught. I learned. I built. I lost. I found.

And now — one block away
from where it all began, I return.

A FULL CIRCLE.

ORÍ is home, BB.

And on we go.
