That pro you love? Your friends need their number. 💜

Why recommending a pro you love matters (more than a star rating):

🗣️ You share what a rating can’t: “He fixed it in one visit.” “She’s great with nervous dogs.” “They explained the estimate line by line.”
🛠️ It helps good pros thrive. When you recommend a pro, they get a new client who already trusts them, a steadier calendar, and a reputation built on real work.
⭐ Star ratings come from people you don’t know. A recommendation is personal, specific, accountable, and your friend can ask you questions.

How to give a referral that helps:
1️⃣ Only recommend someone you’d hire again
2️⃣ Be specific about the job
3️⃣ Add context: size, urgency, price range
4️⃣ Share how to reach and book them
5️⃣ Ask first for sensitive services

Example you can borrow: “Our electrician swapped three outlets and a ceiling fan, gave a clear quote up front, and cleaned up. A bit booked out, so call ahead.”

Refer a friend to a contractor, a sitter, a mechanic. It’s the simplest way to support local pros. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

“Anyone know a good plumber?” Ask better, get better answers. 💬

Nearly 90% of consumers prefer to find a pro by word of mouth (Nielsen). Here’s how to ask friends for recommendations that actually help:

👥 Ask beyond your best friend: close friends and family, neighbors (for home services), coworkers and parents at school, other pros you trust, and friends of friends.
🧩 Make your ask easy to answer: what you need, where you are, when you need it, and what matters to you.

📋 Copy & paste this recommendation request text:
“Hey! Do you have a plumber you trust? Our kitchen faucet is dripping and I’d love someone reliable. Who do you use?”

📋 For a friend of a friend:
“Hi [Name], [Mutual Friend] said you used a great mortgage broker. Would you share who you worked with and how it went?”

✅ Got a name? Ask: What did they do for you? Did the price match the estimate? Would you hire them again?
💜 Close the loop: thank them, share how it went, and pass along your own favorites. (Still check license, insurance and a written estimate.)

Neighborhood recommendations and word of mouth recommendations start with one good “Who do you use for…?” Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

Your best marketing isn’t an ad. It’s a happy client. 🤝

Over 80% of pros drive their business by word of mouth (LocaliQ Marketing Trends Report). Here’s referral marketing for small business, step by step:

🛠️ Be referral-worthy. Show up when you say you will, put estimates in writing, stand behind your work, respond fast, and own mistakes.
🗣️ Be easy to describe. People can only refer what they can explain: “I help homeowners in North County with leaks, water heaters and drain problems.”
🙋 Ask clients for referrals at the right time: right after a successful job, after a compliment, or during a follow-up check-in. Try: “I’m growing mostly through referrals. If someone comes to mind, I’d be grateful for an introduction.”
📲 Make it easy, then say thanks. Give clients a text-ready intro to forward, reply fast to referred leads, and thank the referrer right away.
📈 Stay in touch and track it. Ask “How did you hear about us?” and focus on referrals over chasing star ratings.

📅 15–30 minutes a week: review recent jobs, check in with a few clients, ask happy clients, thank referrers, update your tracking sheet.

Want to get more referrals? Local service marketing starts with the clients you already have. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

Get the price before it’s on the truck. 🛋️🚚

Junk removal sounds simple, but the most common frustration is a price that jumps once the truck is loaded. Here’s how to choose a junk removal company:

📝 Decide what’s going first: furniture, appliances, yard waste or a full garage cleanout. Photos help companies estimate. Paint, chemicals and batteries may need special handling, so ask first.
🗣️ Ask people you know: neighbors and friends who just moved, your real estate agent or property manager, and movers or contractors you trust. Did the price match the quote?
💵 Understand junk removal pricing: by volume, by item, or sometimes by weight or time, plus possible extras for stairs, heavy items or disposal.
✅ Get a firm quote in writing after they see the load, and confirm it before anyone starts loading.
♻️ Ask where it goes: Do you donate or recycle? Do you use proper disposal facilities?

More questions to ask junk removal: Are you insured? How do you handle damage? Will you sweep up after?

🚩 Red flags: no firm price before loading, no proof of insurance, cash only with no receipt, and unmarked trucks.

Furniture removal or a whole house, searching “junk removal near me” goes better with a name from someone you trust. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

Car stuck inside? Don’t hire in a panic. 🚗🔧

When the garage door won’t open, it’s tempting to search “garage door repair near me” and call the first number. Here’s how to choose a garage door repair company you can trust:

1️⃣ Ask people you know: neighbors with similar doors, friends who had a spring or opener replaced, your HOA, or a handyman you trust. Was the final bill close to the quote?
2️⃣ Confirm the company is real and local: a business name, an address, and who will actually do the work. Check license and insurance where required.
3️⃣ Describe the problem clearly: what the door does, any loud bang or grinding, a loose cable, and your opener’s brand and age.
4️⃣ Ask before any work starts: Is there a service call fee? Can I get a written price? Can you show me what’s broken? One spring or both?

Garage door spring repair and cable work can be dangerous, so leave them to a trained pro, even in an emergency. Most problems, including garage door opener repair, can be fixed without a whole new door.

🚩 Garage door repair red flags: a different name on the truck, a low phone quote that grows on arrival, “today only” pricing, or a tech who won’t show you the broken part.

Best move: save a name from someone you trust before you need emergency garage door repair. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

Tree work is one of the riskiest jobs you can hire out. 🌳

Here’s how to choose a tree service that protects your home and your trees:

1️⃣ Ask neighbors with big, healthy, well-kept trees who they use. Friends who had a removal, your landscaper, or a roofer you trust are great leads too. Did the crew protect the lawn? Was cleanup included?
2️⃣ Ask about credentials: Is there an ISA Certified Arborist on the job, or directing it? You can verify the certification.
3️⃣ Check insurance and permits: proof of liability and workers’ comp, and who checks and pulls any tree removal permit your city or HOA requires.
4️⃣ Get a detailed written estimate: which trees and branches, how much canopy comes off, stump grinding, hauling, cleanup and timing.

Questions to ask a tree service: How will you protect my roof, fence and plants? Your own crew or subcontractors? Do you follow recognized pruning standards?

🚩 Red flags: tree topping, climbing spikes on trees you’re keeping, door-to-door crews after a storm, cash-only deals, and big upfront payments.

Searching “tree removal near me” or a tree trimming service? Start with the neighbors whose trees you admire. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

A low management fee can cost you the most. 🏠

Here’s how to find a good property manager:

🔑 Know the job: marketing and tenant screening, rent collection, maintenance and emergencies, deposits, inspections and reports. Ask what’s included and what costs extra.
🗣️ Ask other landlords who’ve used them: fellow owners and investors, your agent, mortgage broker or accountant, and friends of friends with rentals nearby. Are they responsive? Are statements clear? Any surprise fees?
✅ Verify licensing where required (in California, check the DRE), plus liability and E&O insurance and separate trust accounts for deposits.
💵 Compare the full list of property manager fees: monthly management, leasing and renewal, maintenance markups, inspection, eviction and termination fees.
📝 Read the property management contract: what can they approve without you, how and when you get paid, and what the termination terms are.

🚩 Red flags: vague fees, no license where required, unclear deposit handling, steep exit penalties, promises of high rent or quick fills.

Good rental property management starts with a landlord property manager referral from people you trust. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

Don’t hire a designer from pretty photos alone. 🛋️

Here’s how to find an interior designer who fits your style and budget:

1️⃣ Love a friend’s home? Ask who designed it. Friends, neighbors, your contractor or architect, and local furniture and fabric shops know who’s good.
2️⃣ Review portfolios for your style, livable spaces, and projects like yours.
3️⃣ Know the designer fees: hourly, flat, a percentage, or cost-plus. Ask about markups on furniture and materials.
4️⃣ Book an interior design consultation with 2–3 designers. Do they listen? Do they respect your budget?
5️⃣ Get the scope, fees, timeline and payment schedule in writing.

Interior designer or home decorator? A decorator focuses on furnishings and finishes. A designer may also handle layouts and work with your contractor. Ask what each one covers.

🚩 Red flags: vague fees, no contract, won’t discuss markups, pressure to overspend.

Ready to hire an interior designer? Start with the homes you already love. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog

The right tutor beats the first tutor you find. 📚

Here’s how to find a good tutor for your child:

🎯 Start with the why: catching up, keeping pace in a hard subject, study skills, test prep, or support for learning differences. Ask your child and their teacher where the struggle is.
🗣️ Ask people who’ve seen results: parents of classmates, your child’s teacher or counselor, coaches and librarians, and friends of friends. What worked? Did confidence change?
✅ Check qualifications. Tutoring is mostly unregulated, so ask about subject and grade-level knowledge, experience with kids like yours, references, and a background check for in-home tutoring.
👀 Watch the first session. Do they build rapport, explain clearly and encourage? How does your child feel after?
❓ Ask: How will you track progress? Will you coordinate with the teacher? What’s the rate and cancellation policy?

Online vs in-person tutoring? Younger children often benefit from in-person or well-structured sessions. Older students may do well online.

🚩 Red flags: guaranteed grade improvements, pressure to prepay large sums, no progress updates.

The best sitters aren’t found. They’re recommended. 💜

Here’s how to find a babysitter or nanny you trust:

👶 Babysitter vs nanny: a babysitter covers occasional evenings or weekends. A nanny works a regular schedule, often with more duties. (A regular in-home caregiver may make you an employer, so check local tax rules.)
📝 Write down your needs: schedule, kids’ ages, routines and allergies, duties, and budget.
🗣️ Start with parents you know: parents at school and activities, neighbors with kids, families a sitter already works for, and friends of friends. Ask: How do your kids respond to them?
❓ Nanny interview questions: experience with kids your kids’ ages, current CPR and first aid, approach to discipline and screens, and “What would you do if my child fell?”
✅ Before the first solo shift: call 2–3 previous families, verify ID, run a background check with consent, check their driving record if they’ll drive, and do a short paid trial while you’re home.

🚩 Red flags: won’t give references or do a background check, ignores your child in the interview, pushes for cash with no agreement.

A trusted babysitter usually comes through people you know. Read the full guide at my-pro.io/blog
