Main Character vol 1

A week before my 36th birthday I found myself crying to my friend over the phone. Full of rejection from every man I ever loved. Completely deflated with no self worth because I gave it to my ex-husband. Full of self loathing and judgement because it’s been FOUR years since my divorce and I was still grieving the loss and drowning in pain.

My Friend replied, “Myra, stop acting like the side character in your ex husband’s life and start being the Main Character in yours.”
.
I have spent so much time and energy making myself as small as humanly possible to keep the peace from a man who does not see me, respect me, or love me.
.
From the instigation of my friend, I booked this photoshoot with the talented @noellereynolds to remind myself that I am the main character in my life. That I am the owner of my own choices and not the victim of someone else’s.
.
Here’s to growth, opening a new chapter, finally taking control of my own life, and detaching from things that no longer serve or define me.
.
The truth of the day is, “I can choose happiness regardless of what others choose.”

Can I be vulnerable for a minute? I miss wearing my wedding ring. And maybe that's too personal of a statement to make on a social media platform. It's not to make anyone feel sorry for me or uncomfortable. I've just noticed that being honest with myself about the things that I miss or am feeling right now is part of the journey to healing.
One day I'll wear a wedding ring again. And when I look at it, it will remind me of all the steps I made towards healing, love, and compassion. That ring will symbolize all the hard work, joy, and commitment my partner and I have accomplished together and will continue to do so for the rest of our lives.
Until that day comes, I am going to continue to take baby steps and give myself grace.
If you're wearing a wedding ring right now, give your partner a big squeeze and tell them what they mean to you. I'm sure they'd love to hear.
