Your generator’s hour meter already knows when you should order diesel.

There are two common ways to decide: the calendar or the gauge. The calendar doesn’t know the generator ran all weekend. The gauge only tells you when it’s urgent.

Burn rate tells you when it’s due, and you can work it out from paper you already keep:
1. Fill to the same mark at every delivery
2. Log the hour meter at each delivery
3. Litres delivered ÷ hours run = litres per hour
4. Litres per hour × hours you run a week = your weekly order

Save this and try it at your next two deliveries.

NMDPRA ordered filling station operators across Nigeria to immediately calibrate and verify their dispensers and totalisers, and warned that outlets short-changing customers could lose their licences. The next evening PETROAN held an emergency meeting and told members nationwide to go and check their meters.

That is the retail side of the industry. Now ask the same question about the truck that comes through your gate.

A gauge on your tank tells you a level. A meter tells you a quantity. Only one of those is an instrument anybody else verifies.

Which do you actually check on a Monday morning: the level in the tank, or the number on the delivery note?

Nigeria has 13,625 MW of installed generating capacity. In February the grid averaged 4,102 MWh/h. In April, 4,048. Both months the plant availability factor sat at roughly a third. Those are NERC’s own operational factsheets.

Read it the way a facility manager has to. The generator is not the backup. It is the supply, and the grid is the relief.

That changes what a diesel order actually is. It stops being an errand you run when the tank looks low and becomes a line item with a burn rate, a lead time and a delivery you can audit.

Three things to settle before the quarter starts, in the swipe. Save it and take it to your next budget meeting.

Speed violation is the leading cause of road traffic crashes in Nigeria, in every geopolitical zone. That is the National Bureau of Statistics reading its own Q1 2026 data, across 2,720 recorded crashes.

Tomorrow is a public holiday. A lot of cars that have spent nine months in Lagos stop-start traffic are about to do three hours at highway speed for the first time this year.

The road will be emptier. Emptier is not safer. It is faster.
