A renewable energy theme can look clean on a poster and messy on a scoreboard.

On 5 October, the same basket was split. JSW Energy was up about 1.4%. Adani Green, Tata Power and NHPC were only mildly green. NTPC Green and Acme Solar were down about 1%. KPI Green was down 6.9%, Inox Green 5.7%, Insolation Energy 4.1%.

One headline. Eleven different stocks.

Momentum makes the split clearer.

Acme Solar is the only name here with strength across all three windows: 1M 78, 3M 82, 6M 88. NTPC Green is firm on 1M (72) and 3M (67), but the 6-month score is still weak at 38. Adani Green’s 1-month score is 63, yet the 3-month score is only 28. KPI Green’s 1-month score is 82 — and the stock still fell hard in a single session. Suzlon and SJVN sit in the bearish zone on every timeframe.

That is the problem with theme investing done from a list.

Policy support, falling project costs and long-term PPAs can make renewable energy a long-duration story. They do not make every stock in the basket move together. A green sector day can hide weak 6-month momentum. A red day can hit a stock whose multi-timeframe scores are still strong.

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel continue to dominate India's mobile subscriber additions — but the numbers reveal an interesting shift in market dynamics.
