New project: Logo design for this ‘it’s lake ontario.’ tee

my role: Lead designer + consultant

Led the design of the “it’s lake ontario.” graphic tee for Canadian ethical clothing brand @minimioche, designed in direct response to the trade-tension executive order attempting to rename Lake Ontario. Developed the visual concept and handwritten typography to capture a spirit of matter-of-fact, cheeky resistance, creating a timely piece of cultural commentary that drove much social engagement. This generated awareness while directing net proceeds to True North Aid in support of Indigenous communities affected by wildfires. The initial run of the adult sized tees sold out in a matter of hours. Thank you mini mioche for entrusting me with this honour. 🙏🏽🩵✊🏽 taken in Toronto, Canada by @myturtleneckdesign

Sharing a recent project: A wordmark refinement and brand icon creation for @minimioche, my son’s favourite ethical, plastic-free, gender neutral clothing brand in Toronto ahead of the new brick and mortar store

My role: Lead Creative / Design Consultant

Evolving the brand identity for mini mioche—an ethically made-in-Toronto apparel brand— I translated their playful, no-bullshit ethos (people + planet + play > all) into an ownable visual system. Building on their existing use of emojis, I developed a bespoke brand mascot: a confident, smiley-faced planet framed by stitching to honour the brand’s commitment to quality and craft. Currently nicknamed “Happy Planet” by the owner, Jacquelyn Corbett’s own kids.

Phase 1: Designed a versatile, stacked execution of the primary brand identity. By deleting the dot of the ‘i’ from the single line wordmark, it allowed the name to stack in a more anchored way. It was a very subtle but key change that gave the brand identity much more versatility.

Phase 2: Created a modern, fun brand icon designed to bring personality, playfulness, and cohesion across all applications.

The official opening of the brand new Toronto store will be September 2026 at 1184 Queen Street E. 🥳 Check them out minimioche.com taken in Toronto, Canada by @myturtleneckdesign

I’m so honoured to have worked with ethical children’s clothing brand @minimioche right here in Canada for @amnestycanada on the design of “Love is a Human Right” Pride 2025 Collection! This is a limited edition, organic t-shirt design celebrating 2SLGBTQQIA+ rights, dignity and inclusion. 100% of proceeds support Amnesty International’s human rights advocacy work. There’s nothing better than working on projects and brands you truly respect. Thank you @thatjacquelyn for letting me be part of this and putting your trust in me! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 by @myturtleneckdesign

I’m excited to share a project I’m so honoured to be a part of this year: RECHARGE Beyond the Bars Re-entry Game app. The 60+ game cards are communication and activity prompts helping promote empathy, healing and healthy reintegration back to society as well as reconnection with friends and family.

The game is currently available in 150 correctional facilities throughout the United States for incarcerated folks to play during visitations with friends and family (launched Dec 2021). I am currently getting the Spanish version ready for every prison in Puerto Rico and beyond. I was tasked by Leslie Robinson (game creator/founder and practicing psychotherapist) to design and adapt the physical game to a digital app interface. Leslie, your work in supporting individuals recovering from the trauma of incarceration (aside from all the other amazing work you do!) is truly amazing. You're truly making an impact in so many people’s lives. Thank you for trusting me with this project. It is an honour and a pleasure.

Popping in during the busiest period of the past couple of years to share a sneak peek at a recent project. Hiii!

This is a branding project for @helenaerinbrown which included developing a colour palette, an icon library for digital use on various social media platforms, web, newsletter, etc + a brand guidelines book. In addition to creating a brand identity that conveys the safety, warmth and ease of who Helena is as a therapist and social worker, I also wanted the creative writing element (important to who she is and what she does) to be conveyed in her overall brand identity.

Thank you for trusting me with the process of discovering your visual identity, @helenaerinbrown. It was a joy to work with you on this.🤎 #branding #brandidentitydesign #personalbranding #logodesign #iconography #colourpalettedesign by @myturtleneckdesign

Making a limited edition hot sauce label that’s clean and minimal required restraint. It allowed the product’s colour to speak for itself. ⚡️⚡️⚡️#myturtleckdesign #packagingdesign #labeldesign #graphicdesign taken in Toronto, Ontario by @myturtleneckdesign

A look back at a small print project for Toronto Pearson. It’s the holiday card for Canada’s largest airport. I got to do a bit of illustration and digital metallic foil printing fun. .

Hello 😊 I’m sharing some of the work I’ve done this past year. Here’s a campaign lead by Toronto Pearson International Airport. The aim was to gather both public and government support to build a major transit hub at the airport. I helped establish a new design direction utilizing a library of customized universal iconography-based illustrations in the airport’s colourful palette. It’s been a while since I’ve posted my DESIGN PRIMER series on my blog. The series aims to demystify my design process, specifically regarding logo or brand identity design. Work and life have kept me away from sharing over the past few months. But I’m happy to share the third part of the series today. Yay! This one is all about why crowd-sourcing your logo is a bad idea. Here is an excerpt below. Go to www.myturtleneck.com/blog to read the rest. (Link in bio) “I must discuss design competitions, too. Simply put: I don’t believe in them. They fundamentally devalue the graphic design industry as a whole. It’s a way to, once again, get numerous submissions offering (if you’re lucky) a small cash prize and the promise of ‘exposure’ to the winner. For designers who agree to submit work they will likely never be compensated for, it shows how little they value to the years (and tuition money!) spent on their education. The promise of exposure is also a load of crap. A design competition audience is already the wrong audience to expose your work to. Participating designers are already selling themselves as someone who will work for (almost) free. This doesn’t set them up to meet clients that will respect and value their work. From where I’m standing, choosing the design competition route – particularly for something as important as your brand identity – does not say good things about your company. It's exploitive, arbitrary and a cheap-looking way to find the first and very important design solution.

It’s also worth pondering whether a crowd-sourced logo is truly what you want to be identified with for the next five, ten (or more) years.”
