Happy happy happy 35th birthday to this man. My better half. My best friend. My forever partner in adventure and solitude (duotude? is that a word??)

The one who keeps me alive with home cooked meals and door dash while he’s on the road (because I’m a woman in my late 30s who can do a lot of things, but feeding myself is not high on that list)

The one who writes me the best, most beautiful cards on our anniversary. The best, most beautiful songs, even if they make me cry. The one who tells me I’m beautiful even when I look like a dumpster fire garbage person.

The one who keeps a med schedule and coordinates care when I’m stuck in bed with the flu on his birthday 😫😫😫

The one who makes me laugh constantly. The sweetest, most considerate man I know. The other half of our whole. Team Ford forever. I love you so much. by @mzberjord

John Corbin Burnett. 1935-2021.
A tough sonofabitch, born on the longest day of the year, to a spitfire of a woman named Ruby Cleo.
A Businessman. A Politician. A Salesman. An Athlete. He was crowned the winner of baby beauty pageants, and lied about his age at 17 so he could join the Navy. A prankster. A fighter. A smooth talker. He could be softie at times, especially with his grandbabies and great-grandbabies. A caretaker. And lover of his Mary Nell, who we lost 11 years ago.

The Lewy Body Dementia took his ability to speak in his final days, but one of the nurses called last weekend to ask “who is Mary Nell?” He hadn’t spoken or eaten in days but he was calling her name, clear as a bell. “MurrryNaiill!” as we all liked to imitate in his thick East Texas accent.

Their lifelong friends Bob & Anita passed last year as well, and I like to think that my Grandmother, after patiently waiting (or let’s be honest, probably impatiently, and a little annoyed, if such emotions exist in the afterlife), she finally has her complete bridge table back.

We’ll miss you Papa. But it’s hard to be sad when we know you’re finally with your woman, and free of the weight of such a cruel and unrelenting disease.

Last night was one for the books. The storms cleared and we watched the sunset from the middle of what felt like our own personal lake. On one side the sun was setting and on the other there was an enormous rainbow. The water was still chest-high about 100 yds from the dock, so we just kept floating out until we were surrounded by sky & water. I couldn’t stop giggling. taken in Onalaska, Texas by @mzberjord

Happiest of Mother’s Days to this powerhouse of a woman @lizajanebergeron . She taught me a million things, but here’s a few that I’m especially grateful for: how to make a roux, how to effectively use hot rollers, how to correctly paint trim, and how not to take any shit that wasn’t deservedly given. She also embroidered my gym clothes and made me wear a belt with my overalls in junior high, which I have just recently realized was probably, definitely to embarrass me to a level that made sure I had thick skin and was never cool enough to peak in high school. Thanks mom for all of it. Love you tons. by @mzberjord
