PITCH SCOTLAND was a great opp for me to network and engage with great emerging talent in the UNESCO City of Music Since 2008, Glasgow!
I presented another great Battle of the Music Supervisors event, with my@people at @wearesyncstate ! Kudos to Founder @richymuirhead of @pitchscotland for his 5th year of the event. I was honored to work with a great panel of Canadian Music Leaders on this event: @eh_side_ev @davidclickcox @raqueloutloud @mzmeesh17

What type of friends do you have in your circle?

The real question is, what is a friend?
Do we have a tendency to put all our relationships into one friendship box?
Is your circle of friends really serving you?

Tough questions that most of us are trying to avoid.
No one wants to "hurt" anyone when considering letting go while we battle with the hurt we suffer from staying in relationships that no longer serve us. We never see the room we create for the right people to enter our lives by letting go of the friendships we had since we were kids even though the relationship has become toxic. And then we have the nerve to become jaded and resentful of other people we haven't truly met yet.

It's a strange world with weird habits.
Does it ever occur to us that most people enter our lives to help us see ourselves? All relationships show us:
What we will allow.
What we won't tolerate.
Where our limits are.
How to communicate.
What patience really is.
A new point of view.
How much love you can have for another.
How much love you have for yourself.

People may come in different shapes and sizes (holistically speaking) but I think that's the point. "Find your tribe" isn't just a saying. It's a mission so you can learn who you are in the process.

I wasn't going to post this but...

It's nice to finally be able to be the musician!
It's been a few years since I've actually touched my instrument and boy did it feel good to actually play this summer. The carving of my schedule was insane just to make this happen but my soul needed this moment. I wasn't going to post this video as I thought it was too long and we know Instagram doesn't like that but I'm way too proud of this band...my team here not to showcase something I love so much. Congratulations to @panmasters_steel_orchestra and our phenomenal and insanely talented arranger @djsmooth4hd for this magical piece of music. I'm still watching it like it's new...lol 😂🥰

P.s. I'm the one in the black and white hat giving honour to the original calypsonian songwriter and performer "Shadow" 🕊

Song name: "Feeling the Feeling"

I've never been so vulnerable.

I wanted to do this for a while but in complete honesty, I was scared.
Scared of being this transparent.
Scared of the responsibility behind this kind of work and connection.
Scared of not being understood.
Scared of starting something new...again.
Maybe even scared of it working.

But I kept coming back to the same feeling:

We need this.

As creatives, we spend so much time trying to grow, achieve, build, create and become that we don't always make space for the person doing all of that work.

The Circle is that space.

A place to talk about what we're carrying, what we need, and the things we don't always feel comfortable saying out loud.

A place to challenge some of the beliefs we've picked up along the way. To question what we think we know about ourselves. To have conversations that stretch us, ground us and, hopefully, help us move past the things that keep us from becoming who we're capable of being.

This isn't about having all the answers.

It's about being willing to sit with the questions.

To be honest.
To listen.
To be challenged.
To support one another.
And to remember that we don't have to figure everything out alone.

I don't know exactly what The Circle will become.

And honestly, I think that's part of the beauty of it.

I just know I wanted to create somewhere we could come as we are, leave the performance at the door, and build something meaningful from within.

So...I'm taking the leap.

Often we address what creatives need but rarely do we address what we're carrying.

We spend so much time talking about what creatives **need**.

More funding. More opportunities. More resources. More mentorship. More support.

But how often do we stop and ask:

**What are we carrying?**

The pressure. The uncertainty. The self-doubt. The expectations. The rejection. The fear of falling behind. The weight of becoming who we’re trying to become while still figuring out who we are.

**The Circle – Building From Within** was created to make space for those conversations.

A place to be honest about what we're carrying, connect with others who understand, and explore what it means to build the relationships and communities that help us become who we want to be.

✨ **Our next Circle:**
**Monday, September 28th**
📍 OBJX Studios
🕡 Doors open: 6:30 PM
🕖 Conversation: 7:00–9:00 PM
☕ Light refreshments provided

### **Becoming Who You Want to Be In Finding & Creating Your Circle**

Who we become is often shaped by who we surround ourselves with. So what happens when we intentionally create a circle that supports the person we're becoming — not just the person we are today?

Come as you are. Bring your questions, your experiences, your perspective — and maybe even some of what you've been carrying.

**The Circle is open. Come sit with us.**

Tech has been used to help make music but are you using your music to help tech reach audiences?

Oh the places you hear music but rarely think to consider that your music fits OR more importantly that you could build catalog solely for these areas or markets.

Did you know Pepsi owns Quaker Oats? I say that because Pepsi doesn't appeal to the breakfast crowd like it does lunch or dinner but found a way to have a product in it's "catalog" that it could cover the area it knew Pepsi couldn't do alone. This is a great example of building catalog for something other than your audience while still being you and sustainably doing what you love in new creative ways.

Check out @thehookscl for workshops and development that cater to outside the box skill development. Think sync licensing, sound design and music production for video games, commercials and trailers. It's time there is finally a space that focuses of how to creatively live sustainbable all at Sustainable Creative Living! 🎯 by @mzmeesh17

Communication. Why don't you like it?

Millennials have built a wonderful kingdom made entirely of polite panic. They don't use their voices to speak and I'm certain they believe live phone calls are magical traps set by ancient forest goblins.

They say “I’ll circle back” and then disappear into the mist like a Victorian ghost. They're fully capable of managing a mortgage, a career, and three streaming subscriptions… but replying to a text? Suddenly we need 4–6 business days.

Their communication skills are basically: “Sorry for the delayed response!” followed by a 17-paragraph explanation sent three weeks later. We’re doing our best.

Why? What's happening? Talk to us. We're not that scary. by @mzmeesh17

Want to know how I got down at the @ecmaofficial 🧐

A lot of firsts for me:
First time at the ECMA's
First time in Sydney, Cape Breton
First time eating mussels (ik,ik)
Won't be the last time being in awe of great talent.

Massive applause to all performing and presenting artists, songwriters, musicians and music producers. Another applause to the teams behind them that fill in all the blanks and close all the gaps for the sake of another's dreams and believing in them.
Final applause to all the organizers, sponsors, volunteers creating stages and space for dreams to come true and showcase talent that shift global markets.

I had fun and I'm excited with what comes next!

Back on my pulpit!

I believe that when you're serving creatives, especially creatives from underrepresented groups, skill set training alone will never do the job. Sure, you see all forms of different workshops and training programming but the thing that needs the most attention is what the creatives think about themselves and rallying for what they're capable of.

Esthetically, there's the excitement of learning a new skill and the thought of the potential of using these newly adopted skills to further their careers. But in the quiet stillness of our rooms or those moments alone, our belief systems of inequity, lack of opportunity or not good enough creep in and stop us in our tracks. Skills wasted. The mind wins.

Mindsets builds Skill sets.

Part of what I like to incorporate in all of my workshops and Accelerator is instilling new seeds or reminders around dismantling these negative belief systems. Your skills will never surpass your mind so let's work on that first. Our biggest set backs in life are primarily what we think of ourselves. Well, if you plan on hanging with me, be prepared to love your self and your gifts and reset your belief systems. I won't do it any other way. I have my gift and you have yours. Thats why we're here. I have no apologies to give. Yes I'm passionate but I'm a Cancerian...what do you want from me?! More importantly, I mean it! So yah, I sound like a preacher on a Sunday in a Pentecostal church (IYKYK), but isn't it time we had someone in this industry stand on foundation?

I'll leave that to you to answer. taken in Toast + Jam by @mzmeesh17
