This shit didn’t stop. It just changed its name.

Residential schools. Indian day schools. The Sixties Scoop. The child welfare system. Different systems, overlapping histories, generations of our children separated from family, language, land and belonging.

As an Anishinaabe woman and mother who attended Indian Day School, I cannot speak about this as something safely buried in the past. Our families are still carrying it. Our communities are still fighting to keep our children home.

Today, I honour the children who never returned, the Survivors, and those still living with the consequences. I hold grief and anger together. Both belong here.

You cannot wear orange for our children today and look away from what happens to them tomorrow.

Truth means naming the harm that continues.
Reconciliation means changing it.

Our children deserve to grow up knowing who they are, where they come from, and that they are loved. They deserve support that keeps their families together.

Every Child Matters. That must mean something beyond September 30. 🧡

Dear Settler,

We carry this every day, not just September 30.

Please educate each other. Read the Calls to Action. Call out racism and denialism in your own spaces.

We shouldn’t have to keep reliving our trauma just to be believed.

Reconciliation takes all of us. 🧡
