Here's a detailed guide on how to perform a breast self-exam:

Step 1: Visual Inspection in Front of a Mirror.
- Stand undressed from the waist up in front of a well-lit mirror.
- Place your hands on your hips and visually inspect your breasts for any changes in size, shape, or contour.
- Note any skin changes, redness, dimpling, or puckering.

Step 2: Visual Inspection with Raised Arms.
- Raise your arms overhead and observe your breasts again.
- Look for the same changes in size, shape, and skin texture.
- Check for any fluid or discharge from the nipples.

Step 3: Visual Inspection while Leaning Forward.
- Lean forward to allow your breasts to fall away from your chest wall.
- Observe any changes in shape or contour.

Step 4: Manual Examination while Lying Down.
- Lie down on your back with a pillow under your right shoulder.
- Use your left hand to feel your right breast.
- Use the pads of your three middle fingers, not the fingertips.
- Use circular motions, covering the entire breast and moving from the outside to the center.
- Vary pressure: light for the surface, medium for deeper, and firm for the deepest tissues.
- Pay attention to any lumps, thickening, or hardened knots.
- Repeat the process for the left breast, placing a pillow under your left shoulder and using your right hand.

Step 5: Manual Examination while Sitting or Standing.
- You can also perform the manual examination while sitting or standing in the shower.
- Use the same circular motion with varied pressure to check for any changes.

Step 6: Examination of the Nipples.
- Check for any changes in nipple appearance, such as inversion, redness, or scaling.
- Gently squeeze each nipple to check for any discharge.

Step 7: Examination of the Underarm Area.
- Feel the tissue in your underarm area using a circular motion to check for any lumps or swelling.

Note: It's crucial to perform this self-exam monthly, preferably a few days after your menstrual period when breasts are less tender. If you notice any changes or abnormalities, consult with a healthcare professional for further evaluation. by @na.sh_foundation
