A forest beneath Tokyo Station.
Bus Terminal Tokyo Yaesu Underground Level A opened March 20, 2026 — a project two years in the making, from a landscape photographer based in Hokuriku.
“Ryokuin Film”: landscape photographs up to 7 meters wide, running continuously along 300+ meters of underground corridor. Not a gallery — a space people pass through on their way to buses departing for all corners of Japan.
I photographed for immersion and depth, for images that settle into architecture. Not a single striking shot, but landscapes that flow without interruption, that never grow tiresome, and that quietly lift the spirit before a journey. Four seasons captured over one year; the next, filming the large glass screen projections at the facility entrances.
When a photograph lives in a corridor, the question shifts — from “something to look at” to “something that is simply there.” When landscape dissolves into architecture and you forget it was a photograph: that was the goal.
Japan’s forests and seasons, at the start of every journey.

"New Tutorial"

“Fading Gold”Most of the leaves have already fallen, leaving only scattered traces of gold among the bare branches. Yet, in the light rising through the waterfall, these remaining leaves seem to hold onto the warmth of the passing season. A quiet reminder that even as autumn fades, its presence lingers.

“Tonal Contrasts”Cool tones and warm hues, pale mist and deep shadows. Across these landscapes, contrasting colors and subtle shifts in light create a visual interplay between trees, foliage, and their surroundings.

“In Their Own Form”I find myself drawn to the intricate forms of trees and the subtle interplay of tones within the forest. There is always something new to discover in the way branches, light, and atmosphere come together.

“A Glimpse of Gold”A quiet world, where golden leaves emerge from the shadows and morning mist drifts across the fields.

“Where Light Meets Silence”It’s been a while since I last photographed landscapes, and somehow, autumn is already here.I love the contrast between the freezing mornings and the warmth of the midday sun.
Every year, autumn begins here, bringing the kind of scenery I never get tired of seeing.

“Beyond the Mist”A collection of autumn scenes photographed in the same highland landscape.
Mist drifting across the fields, frost-covered grasses,
golden trees catching the morning light, and quiet landscapes fading into the distance.
Different moments, one place,
captured as autumn slowly revealed its many faces.
Looking forward to seeing what this autumn will bring.

Architecture of Cold placed 4th in the Project category at the Natural Landscape Photography Awards 2026.
For several years, I’ve returned to the highlands of central Japan, season after season, to photograph the things that winter creates.
Ice halos, sun pillars, hoarfrost, and rime ice.
Thank you for selecting this project.
Congratulations to everyone who was recognized. The results gallery is now live.
