Maurisio “Mauri” Tapia, the 26-year-old frontman of the California-based indie band Los Retros, was arrested in Ventura County, California, on multiple felony charges involving a young child.

According to reporting from the Ventura County Star, local law enforcement authorities arrested Tapia on October 8, 2026. The musician faces four felony counts involving alleged unlawful acts with a child under the age of 10. Following his arrest and booking, court records indicate his bail was set at $3 million.

The arrest has triggered significant backlash across the indie music community. While videos of recent performances continue to circulate online, many fans have expressed shock and disappointment, though some online discussions urge the public to let the formal legal process unfold. The situation immediately impacted the band’s career, as Los Retros was officially removed from the lineup of the Stones Throw 30 music festival.

Court filings show that Tapia is scheduled to make his next formal courtroom appearance on October 22, 2026. Because the legal process is in its initial stages, he has not been convicted of any crime and remains legally presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. by @naco_records
