Somebody I met with could very comfortably afford a second place in the Townships. He'd wanted one for fifteen years. He couldn't make the decision.

The math worked easily. That was never the issue.

He'd spent thirty years running a business, and every instinct he built in that time was about deferring. Don't take it out, reinvest it. That instinct is a big part of why he ended up with what he has. Then he retired and it didn't switch off.

I don't think that's a discipline problem. I think it's a planning failure, and it's fixable.
