Living with multiple chronic illnesses is frickin’ exhausting.

On March 8th I got really sick, and since half of my family was also sick we figured it was just norovirus. But after 24 hours everyone was fine except me. I was still vomiting and had a splitting migraine that wouldn’t go away.

On the 11th I went to Urgent Care where they treated me with zofran and sent me home, on the 12th I went to the ER and they treated me and sent me home.

On the 14th I went back to the ER because my symptoms seemed to be getting worse. I stayed in the hospital for 8 days, eventually being put on a Dobbhoff for 3 days of nutrients (they actually had to insert the tube twice because it coiled inside of me. Not fun at all).

I left with a new diagnosis, Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, to join my super fun array of health issues (Sjögren’s Syndrome, Chronic Migraines, IBS).

I’m home and resting, my body is still recovering and I’m tired all the time but I’ve gotten lots of reading done and am caught up on all of my favorite shows.

Just a reminder that not all illnesses or disabilities are visible to the naked eye.

I have the best support system a girl could ask for.

“I feel like whenever I am engaged in a dialogue surrounding body image the general consensus is that you’re supposed to love yourself. And I do, I love my body. She’s been through a lot and she continues to persevere. But, I don’t like my body.“

My goal for the summer is to write at least one new Substack post each week. I’ve always found solace in both academic and non-academic writing, so as I enter this transition into post-grad life (and await the grad school application phase of the year), I’ll be writing🤍

This article is one that’s been really weighing on my mind, it addresses body image and body positivity. I’m very proud of myself for being able to talk about this, when in the past I would have just let it fester and lead to toxic and unhealthy patterns.
