this degree was earned by me, a product from the environment i’m surrounded with—the exact reason why i’m sensitive yet resilient like my mom, hot-headed yet caring like my dad, and loud yet attentive like my sister.

i’m sharing this achievement with my dearest family, for i wouldn’t be stepping a foot inside my dream university without any of you.

to my mother, who has been my greatest supporter. your restlessness on getting up the earliest in middle of the night to talk to our Creator. constantly naming us in your sujood, praying for our hopes and dreams to come true. to my mother, who always made sure i’m more than strong enough to fight my own battles and to learn from my mistakes. who made sure i always have someone to come back home to, who’ll have her arms and ears open the moment i’m done for the day.

to my father, our breadwinner, who guarantees we live in utmost comfort with a roof on our heads and any meals we crave on the table. to my father, whose words are little to others yet plenty in our presence. whose words are arranged in such a way for us to grow, for making his and my mother’s story as an example. who’s very observant, even in his silence.

to my sister, my best-friend, who i could share everything knowing there won’t be any judgement or malice from. who’s always been my no 1 hype girl, cheering me without knowing that every step i took was the one she did. to my sister, my biggest role model who i could always look up to. whose laughter is music to my ears, even though i made jokes about how ugly it sounds.

thank you for being by my side, even from before i was entrusted to be in your care by our one and only God. may your path is filled with nothing but immense happiness.

well, this is going to be a long one. let’s rewind for a bit, shall we? to be honest, psychology has been in my radar since junior high. what was started (choosing it) as an act of rebellion, had turned out to be one of the best choices i’ve made in life. but we’re not here to talk about that.

after 4 years of hustling (as my mom said), i have unofficially gotten my degree! was it hard? yes. would i do it again? …not sure why i should say yes. 😬 throughout college, i don’t think i’ve got to experience the real college life like my mom used to say (still kind of salty about it. f u pandemic). but i did meet some great friends, attended a lot of meaningful passion projects, and (tried to) absorb some knowledge.

all in all, despite all the times that i thought would be better if A or B or C happens, i love every second of it.💕 i couldn’t ask for a better social life—from my bgb girls, friends from faculty’s projects, the ones from other faculty, even my colleagues from work that i had the chance to connect with. you know who you are.

and since some of you are asking, no, i’m not doing a master’s (at least not in the near future). the future looks scary, and i crash out every now and then just thinking about it, but at the end of the day, i love the me that gets to grow in the most suitable environment of my own choosing.
