I am not on the side of violence and the killing of people. But when a group of people is being caged in and killed, I have to speak up because I am human and I have humanity. When someone comes into the house your family has lived in for generations and tells you to get out as it is theirs now, what would you do? Remember, one side has the ability to stop the other side’s water, electricity, and food. Who holds the power here? #istandwithpalestine by @nafizaaz

Thank you to @canada.council for believing in my work and letting me continue writing. And thank you to @francinecunningham by way of @writersguildab whose webinar about applying for grants helped me get here.

I can continue writing stories thanks to them.

Natasha and I holding up our copies of the book. Once again, shoutout to @jesscruicky for the amazing cover. The book is hefty so if you’re thinking about carrying it around, you will probably get in your strength training done.

Cheesing while trying to write something “profound” as requested. I don’t know if I succeeded.

My wonderful friends, Natasha Deen and @fatima.telli (who sent me the pics and took most of them). Thanks for coming out to support me! by @nafizaaz

It’s release day for A THOUSAND NIGHTS and my mom is representing me here, being the one who taught me the beauty of stories.

If you are in Edmonton, I am going to be doing the book launch at Audrey’s Books tonight at 7 pm with Natasha Deen. Come on over and let’s have some fun!

We are grateful for these gorgeous words of praise from Book Page!

A Thousand Nights is a collection of adventures and fables, each story accumulated like “shiny coins” and an homage to storytelling’s ability to carry people through the darkest of times. Edited by Nafiza Azad, a finalist for the Morris Award for her novel The Candle and the Flame, and Intisar Khanani, author of the Sunbolt Chronicles and the Dauntless Path series, the collection boasts 15 tales by Muslim women writers. The result is a layered compilation that embodies culture, faith and especially a homeland.
