Yesterday marked the end of my journey in Hamamatsu, Japan where my Jiu-Jitsu story began. I trained at five different academies and managed to teach classes at three of them; I hope that on my next visit, I’ll be able to teach at the others as well. It was deeply moving to step back onto the mats I had left behind when I headed to Brazil—back then, I was an innocent, immature, and defenseless boy with no one to confide in about my fears and insecurities. But I returned this time as a black belt and a true champion—not just because of a gold medal, but because of the story I’ve written. I used to think I was a weak, mediocre teenager; coming back here today, I realize I was actually incredibly strong and resilient. I believed in something and never wavered. I leave here with a sense of mission accomplished and immense joy in my soul. When times are tough, that is exactly when you need to get to work. Win your battles so that, one day, you can tell your own story. Nothing was handed to me; everything was earned with honor and integrity. Nagai Jiu-Jitsu.Ontem marcou o fim da minha jornada em Hamamatsu, onde a minha história no Jiu-Jitsu começou. Treinei em cinco academias diferentes e consegui ministrar aulas em três delas; espero que, na minha próxima visita, eu possa ensinar nas outras também. Foi profundamente emocionante pisar novamente nos tatames que deixei para trás quando parti para o Brasil — naquela época, eu era um garoto inocente, imaturo e indefeso, sem ninguém com quem compartilhar meus medos e inseguranças. Mas retornei desta vez como faixa-preta e um verdadeiro campeão — não apenas por uma medalha de ouro, mas pela história que construí. Eu costumava pensar que era um adolescente fraco e medíocre; ao voltar aqui hoje, percebo que, na verdade, eu era incrivelmente forte e resiliente. Acreditei em algo e jamais vacilei. Parto daqui com a sensação de missão cumprida e uma alegria imensa na alma. É justamente nos momentos difíceis que você precisa entrar em ação.
