A sacred place where the tomb of Saint #Peter is located. The scale, ornamentation, and detailing put in to the making of this important religious structure is simply astounding. The famous #dome of the church has unusual #spirals and seeing the dome nearby and the #vatican square from the dome was - a breath of fresh air experience.

#Oculus, Panteon, Rome

"The #sun never knew how great it was until it struck the side of a #building." - Louis Kahn

A majestic experience of worship while the sun uniquely decorates the #rotunda / #Oculus of the church- the #Pantheon. by @nahomteklu_

What a visit in, out, and around the #Colosseum, a giant ancient Roman #amphitheater and one of the great wonders of the world.

Inspired by the many films and, of course, the 'out-of-this-world' #engineering and #architecture behind it, this wasn't just a sightseeing but a glimpse into how Roman 'entertainment', power, and social-class were built. by @nahomteklu_

During my architectural studies in Ethiopia and the UK, visiting the #Parthenon and the #Acropolis as a whole, inaddition to @theacropolismuseum, became a big inspiration for both academic and personal reasons. Having now experienced these landmarks, I find myself eager to return many more times in the future and further explore the rich history and vibrancy of #Athens. Until next time! #architecture #Greece by @nahomteklu_

#Sluishuis, #Amsterdam, by BIG + Barcode Architects. An interesting communique between the water at the vicinity and architectural response through the striking form of the building, visually. #architecture by @nahomteklu_

The illuminating #atomium experience. A great party of #light, #steel, and #sound entwined in atypical #architecture. @atomium.official by @nahomteklu_

As fresh as today's meaningful #architecture but from the late 1950s!

A commendable visit to one of the most magnified natural structures manifested as an eloquent #steel architecture, @atomium.official

If not labeled as architecture #parlante then what!

architecture well-beyond its time
imagination truly outside the style-dictated era of #design
an #engineering marvel that inquires how 'invisiblity' align.

We are excited to share with you that the Blue Nile Digital Water Gallery is now live!!!

The Gallery is a trilingual online storytelling space that delves into the lives and livelihoods of the diverse communities inhabiting the Blue Nile River Basin across Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt. It has been designed and developed by researchers, practitioners, and artists who have collaborated over the past two years to reimagine water museums, galleries, and archives as hubs of intercultural dialogue, knowledge repositories, and catalysts for social change in times of climate change.

The Contrapuntal is delighted to invite you to the opening of our latest project, EverydayNile: Water, Energy, and Food Justice Along and Beyond the Nile River.

The exhibition presents photographic stories in those countries developed by photographers working with communities and researchers on issues ranging from water access and environmental change to food systems, livelihoods and the everyday realities of people living with the Nile.

The evening will also feature a panel discussion between researchers, photographers and project partners, reflecting on the process of bringing scientific research and visual storytelling together.

We will conclude with a reception offering a space for researchers, photographers, students, journalists and the audiences to meet, exchange ideas and continue the conversation.

Funded through The Journalism Science Alliance, a joint partnership led by The European Journalism Centre and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and implemented with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education this project brings together photographers, researchers and project partners from across three Nile Basin countries – Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt – to examine how environmental and social changes are experienced by communities living along the river.

Date: Thursday 10 Sep 2026, 18:00 - 21:00
Location: Atrium, International Institute of Social Studies, The Hague
Free entrance!
