For the second episode of Transmissions, I'm joined via zoom by Nick Hayes, aka @the_last_dj_ , whose journey into live techno began later in life and has taken him from a career selling brake pads to stages including The Jazz Cafe and beyond.
.
Nick talks candidly about first trying his hand at DJing, quickly realising it wasn't quite for him, and discovering live hardware performance online. Inspired by what he saw, he began experimenting with his own Syntakt and Digitone, connecting with fellow musicians through local EMOMs and quickly finding himself going viral on social media.
.
What followed has been anything but predictable: performances at major venues, a growing social media following, and an online presence that has seen Nick become a source of inspiration for a new generation of electronic musicians.
.
We talk about creativity, confidence, getting started, and the importance of simply putting yourself out there. At 69, Nick's story is a reminder that there is no deadline for pursuing something new and sometimes the most rewarding journeys begin when you decide to try something you've never done before.

Founding member of the SRIE Records label where he contributes his musical pieces and mastering knowledge since 2013 in Buenos Aires, Joel Pulso challenges the stablished structures in the musical framework since his style became more definitive, experimental, analogous and hypnotic, developing a unique imprint, based on minimalism and the collage method through home-made recordings.
.
His project and musical focus exposes the objective of immersing the listener on his semantic field, going from psychical and cerebral music, to the most sci-fi & loopy danceable style through his productions and sessions.
.
Pulso is part of the great Argentine scene providing musical legacies in renowned labels such as Subsist, Semantica, Float, Antiterra, Mindtrip, KEY Vinyl and in its own signature SRIE, where in each release along with Translate, deliver quality music and concept, giving rise to the best artists oscillating within their sound´s framework.
.
Since the end of 2022 a new label was born which is dedicated to the manufacture of cassettes and CDs called "Histéresis" where, together with his partner Uma Soundsystem, Pulso performs the position of mastering (Digital and Cassette) and graphic material for each edition, which are produced at home and manually and delivered to the globe; these editions can be found in his official bandcamp (/Pulsojoel) and in the official Histéresis account too.

In parallel to his music and minimalist style of work, Joel Pulso develops cover arts under the name of Fractales DIY, formerly publisher of fanzines and handmade books, currently factory that spits out the crudest and surreal analog collages which are part of the catalog that defines his vision as an artist.
