Saw two old friends today, both of whom I knew when I wrote more and always inspire me to be more creative. I’ve also found a piece of writing in the depths:

“I just wanted to consider possibilities. Actuality is such a bore. Or imaginations are so much more thorough than the gaps of misunderstanding between two adults….

I look like Saran Wrap stretched over an interstate map. Maybe that will help me blend in with the surrounding traffic.”

Keep creating, even if it’s bad 😆. Just do the thing your soul needs and maybe it will never be commercially successful or what other people say is good, but if your heart needs it, you must. by @nailsbysirbimbo

I finally did it 😆. I took my state licensing exams and PASSED. I am OFFICIAL.

I initially went back to the school I “studied” at to go over the exam and get supplies because I’d signed up for the only test date available for months and was going to have to cram for the exam. I thought it would be helpful to talk to the instructor who is supposed to guide and teach students on the state exam so I could get pointers and, like, maybe some confidence and encouragement.

So this person after seeing me make mistakes on my first time EVER going through the exam tells me I’m not ready and I’ll probably fail. She informed me that I chose the harder test location and proceeded to repeat that I wasn’t ready and wouldn’t pass. She wanted me to continue after this glowing review and while I was ready to scream and cry because I felt so much shame, I packed up my things and said I would go home and practice. I lied and said I’d come back to run through it. At that point I couldn’t learn anything if I was going to be told I was a failure.

I took a day and panicked, then built my confidence back up and never went back. I studied on my own, doing as many repetitions as I could. I almost missed the test on the day of because I was stressed af and I missed the exit. I had to back track an HOUR to the exam center, knowing if things went perfectly I’d be there 10 minutes before the cut off. I arrived, full of cortisol and shaking, but I took deep breaths and knew I just had to do the best I could.

I did my best, I passed, I showed proficiency and also showed that people don’t know shit and you really just have to believe in yourself and do what you can. This world is a bone crusher and there’s always going to be things making it harder and saying you’re not good enough. So just try and don’t be scared to do something you love 💜.
