As we gear up to launch my new children’s book, I want to take a moment to celebrate my uber talented friend and source of great encouragement, Najah Forehand.

Najah, is intelligent, kind, strong and discerning. She prayed with me and for me during this two year journey.

I’ve heard it said that illustrations make for a great children’s book, and while I’m quite proud of this project, I could not have done any of it without her.

No. 17 & 18 The man was so easy to draw. Everything is laid out so plainly on his face. No subtleties 😌 What a relief…they usually take an annoying amount of time 😂 The woman did. I think I’m getting faster though! This was a late night one. 🌙✨ Well…it’s only 9 but that’s late for me because I’m an early riser. I try to do these at the beginning of the day but today had weird errands. Does anyone else wish that life would leave them alone for a bit so that they can do creative things uninterrupted for 100s of hours at a time? I think it’s important to be able to enter creative flows on the reg. Constantly hurrying and watching the clock is maddening. Love to all 💕 by @najahforehand

No. 15 & 16. Squinting eyes will be the death of me 🫠😂 Take some time to breathe fresh air and feel the grass on your feet. It calms the nervous system. We all seem to be so very nervous. I understand it. I sympathize. Sometimes I feel it myself. I think negative emotions should be allowed to reach “full bloom” as a wise friend of mine said. But healing is real. No. 13 & No. 14 I never thought I’d appreciate the nuance to Uncle Fester’s expression before 😂 And I don’t think I quite nailed it. His smile seems like it looks menacing but it doesn’t. It almost has a touch of constipation. He’s clearly a ghoul with a good heart and isn’t scary 😂 Kudos to Christopher Lloyd’s acting! All references found on Pinterest. I want to practice drawing faces. A lot. So I search “portrait reference” and literally sketch whatever comes up. I may or may not recognize celebrities but I do my best 😂 I hope the new year is treating you well. Don’t take yourself TOO seriously, but take yourself seriously enough to do what you’ve always wanted to do. Now is a good time. Love to all 💕 by @najahforehand

No. 11 and 12. The arctic storm is making East Texas uncharacteristically rainy, cold, and dreary. I absolutely love it. Reminds me of home in the Chicago suburbs where it seems like 75% of the year is like this 🥰 I feel like I’m 20 again, only more well adjusted 😂 by @najahforehand

No. 9 & No. 10 I don’t draw a lot of kids so it was cool working on the different facial proportions. Hopefully she actually looks like a little girl haha.
I love getting older. Every year I make thousands of mistakes. I cringe. I do my best. I learn more about the world. I learn more about myself. I learn more about God, and I make adjustments. Life just keeps getting sweeter. Inside I’m more peaceful. I don’t worry about happiness so much anymore. I just want to feel God with me, no matter what I’m doing. Because the world is scary. And I never want to be apart from Him. This week, each day when I think about it, I’ve been moved to ask God to feel his presence. And I feel it. It’s like a child’s laugh. It’s like a warm weighted blanket. It’s like a nap in the sun in a clean, quiet house, with a breeze on your hair. It’s feels like being in love. And it’s a little different every time, like a sunrise, like a sunset. This is the most peaceful I’ve ever been. My word for this year is consistency. If all my other habits fall to the wayside, I hope that one sticks with me for the rest of my life. Love to all 💕 by @najahforehand

I forgot to post these from the other day. I tried a more challenging expression for this one. When drawing it’s hard to make someone squint rather than look super angry 😂 At least for me. Plus it was an extra challenge because she penciled on some dramatic eyebrows. Not sure I nailed it but it was fun. The guy on the right is famous but once again I don’t know famous people 🥲 by @najahforehand

What’s the first thing you notice about a person? That’s hard for me to figure out. It might be their hair? Maybe it’s just their most distinctive features? These sketches as usual are the product of a random search on Pinterest for faces to draw. The one on the left I guess is an MMA fighter and the one on the right is a sumo wrestler and that’s about as much work as I’m willing to put in to identify them at this time. If anybody recognizes either of these two, well done. I apologize but I barely know any celebrities anymore😅 Love to all 💕 by @najahforehand
