HFBB008: @najstrick - Riot!

Nice Trick loves the jungle sound. Whether he’s playing out belters and crowd-pleasers with the heaviest possible basslines, or locked away in the studio trying to make tunes that sound like dramatic ’90s trip-hop hits pushed up to 160 BPM, his approach is rooted in taking the genre somewhere unexpected. Growing up on metal, punk and Yugorock before discovering electronic music in his late teens has given him a unique perspective on jungle and the wider spectrum of fast club music. Representing Slovenia as one of the country’s few jungle exporters, Nice Trick’s goal is to push the sound to its limits - mixing, matching and experimenting with influences from dubstep, hardcore, gabber and IDM, alongside anything else that catches his ear.

“I was watching Columbo a few years ago and sampled a few bits and pieces from the show in a few tracks i made at the time, and this is one of them. Mysterious jungle-tekno just seemed fitting”.

Available via our Bandcamp (and soon on all platforms) as part of our recent HFBB008 track drop (w/ @pinks.uk @_dj_blake @battery_operated)

NICE TRICK [SI]

[SLO]

Nice Trick loves the jungle sound. Be it either playing out belters and crowd pleasers with the heaviest possible bass lines or holing up in his studio and trying to write tunes that sound like dramatic 90s trip hop hits, just at 160BPM. He attributes his unique perspective on the genre to growing up with metal, punk and yugorock before getting into any kind of electronic music in his late teens. Representing Slovenia as the sole jungle exporter, his goal is to push it to its limits. Mixing, matching and experimenting with all kinds of other subgenres from dubstep, hardcore, gabber, IDM and everything in between.

@najstrick sound exactly like UK jungle heads, yet they’re from Slovenia. That’s the first thing worth saying about their productions. When I found that out, I was in shock. I’d been playing loads of their tracks and had no idea.
Protégés of Ljubljana’s underground collective Nimaš Izbire, they’re constantly finding new ways to fuse the rich rave legacy of the ’90s with today’s post-club and SoundCloud-driven sounds.

For the first 30 minutes, I put together a mix using only @xxiiibeats most recent releases. Some of them unreleased. Can you tell which ones?

Tracklist is public service 👀
