For years, I stayed away from the camera. Throughout my teens, I didn’t take a single photo of myself—it was a time of hiding. This self portrait is my recovery shout. Created just finishing my Fine Arts uni years, it marks the moment I finally decided to be seen. It’s more than a painting; it’s reclaimed self-love. This work is exactly 26 years old now.

This collection, Bila —the Basque word for "seeking", started in Bali last summer, born from a creative block I couldn't quite shake. I needed to paint, but I didn't know where to start, so I went with small watercolors.

This collection is my ongoing exercise in finding answers through the act of creating. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to find, or where this path ends, but I know that the search itself is the point.
Welcome to the process.

My next project is called "Her & Her".
I've been creating the dossier for a few weeks already and I think I can start publishing the first steps. I'll be posting the dossier chapter by chapter also in my portfolio nak.studio.

HER & HER
Beyond the lens

This project is a pictorial journey through the history of photographic portraiture, built upon a deliberate and exclusive dialogue: women behind the camera capturing women in front of it.

For generations, the female gaze was quietly sidelined, its profound contribution to art history kept in the shadows or relegated to the background. This watercolor series confronts that historical omission by placing female agency at its core. It is a celebration of strength, resilience, and creative authority—a fundamental call to champion women seeing, shaping, and honoring women on their own terms.

Across more than a century of photography, these artists forged an unbroken lineage of vision, capturing the identity, vulnerability, power, and complexity of figures who shaped global culture. By reinterpreting these iconic portraits through chiaroscuro and the fluidity of pigment, each painting honors the raw architecture of light and the deep psychological charge within each moment.
From early Victorian atmospheres and 20th-century documentary testimonies to the raw edge of photojournalism and contemporary visions, HER & HER stands as a powerful space of convergence. Here, shadow gives form to light, making visible what was once overlooked, and transforming the image into a lasting testament of female presence, memory, and alliance.
