Non-stop 1.5 weeks: Shanghai ➔ Hong Kong ➔ Singapore! Completely exhausted, but heart so full. ❤️ A huge milestone for @onebite.design @onebite.social, we received the Impact Beyond Award from the DBS Foundation (@dbsbank). After months of endless pitching and proposal fine-tuning (all praise to @muiszewa for the incredible heavy lifting!), we won alongside brilliant teams across Shanghai, Taiwan, and India! With our vision for Project House as a “Silver Power Hub”, we are transforming underused urban nooks into places where seniors can connect, share their wealth of experience, and explore new mini-job opportunities. Thank you, DBS Foundation, for placing your trust in a multi-disciplinary architectural practice to redefine active ageing in the community. And a massive thank you to @warrenluk , Karen, @maphillui and the DBSF team—your guidance and encouragement made this possible! From inspiring site visits at @city_sprouts and SG Enable to lively debates and Human Library sessions, the energy in SG was infectious. Equally meaningful was sharing this milestone with our longtime collaborators and mentors—Josephine (St. James’ Settlement), @wlchan1231 & Fish (Caritas), Kit & Jelly (TWGHs), @jessicatamws (HKCSS), and new friends @coobycooby (Hong Kong Aquaculture) and Vivian (JA). To all my SG friends I couldn’t manage to see in this quick 3-day dash: I’ll be back very soon for proper catch-ups! 😃 by @nakalun
🤟 by @nakalun
A whirlwind 4-day trip to Kuala Lumpur that came out of nowhere, but turned out to be the best kind of surprise! Huge shoutout to @djyinyin for introducing me to the wonderful @kampung_ing team. I was invited over to share a Hong Kong perspective on Malaysia’s Kampung Baru (New Villages). To be honest, I initially thought it was just one single village... turns out it’s a whole network of 613 Chinese communities across the country! Walked right into an incredible 3-day Expo filled with exhibitions, bazaars, performances, and a really inspiring forum. It was a privilege to share our Hong Kong experience—from reviving underutilised city’s heritage spaces through Project House, to our rural and villages’ curation work at the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival. Both Hong Kong and Malaysia are facing similar hurdles with ageing rural demographics and youth moving away, so seeing the immense heart, research, and ground-up action happening here was really eye-opening. There’s so much we can learn from each other! Beyond the forum, this trip was pure warmth. Heartfelt thanks to the team for the wonderful hospitality! It was also so comforting to catch up with old Malaysian friends I’ve missed so much, and equally grateful to meet new ones along the way. Even though I was just here last year, it somehow felt like ages ago! I just love the vibe and the people here so much. ❤️ Till next time, KL! 👋 by @nakalun

TEDx HKBU | Where’s Your Place? Reimagining Public Space Through Youth POV My very first TEDx talk is officially in the books (I still remember I bought my first TED talk book that teaches you how to speak was in 2020). Thank you @tedxhkbu.official @tedx_official @lorayleung @deniseytc @merripui for giving me a chance to fill in my bucket list! Joining the TEDx HKBU stage alongside an incredible lineup of speakers—from singer, influencer, film director to experts from different disciplines—was an absolute honour (and a humbling reminder of how diverse human genius is!). It’s also my pleasure to hear speakers’ individual life journey, which I cannot find anywhere online or offline. Very nice meeting you all in person! @chumichael @agneswym @thisisyoyosham @_sarahtongo @nodaydaypost @mattchung @kennykk @mayaoo Of course, no live talk is complete without a surprise technical glitch to test your heart rate. Huge shoutout to the stage gods for keeping me on my toes! But hey, we pivoted, we presented, and hearing the insightful feedbacks from students afterward made every micro-panic attack totally worth it. A massive thank you to the HKBU team for taking such good care of me and making magic happen behind the scenes, including the amazing video curated by @finnlaiys! “A city that doesn’t design for its youth has no future. But a city where youth demand their place, voice out their needs, will never grow old. So don’t just inhabit Hong Kong. Re-imagine it. Claim it. Co-create it.” @onebite.design by @nakalun
Incredible India—first time for me, and absolutely unforgettable! 🇮🇳✨ Hitting the Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur) with a squad of over 30 delegates for the Arcasia Forum was a whirlwind of amazing architecture and even better company. Catching up with my Arcasia friends is always a highlight; we’ve truly become more like family and siblings over the years. One of the proudest moments of the trip was seeing such a massive turnout of young architects joining our ranks. Watching them step up makes me incredibly excited for the future—the HKIA legacy is in very good hands! Between marveling at UNESCO World Heritage sites like the breathtaking Taj Mahal, geeking out over the insane geometry of the famous Chand Baori stepwell, and logging a lot of miles on the road, it was an action-packed itinerary. And the ultimate victory? My stomach completely survived! Huge thanks to some very strategic and careful food and drink choices (fine dining of course 😂）along the way! Such a fun, exhausting, and inspiring trip. Already counting down the days until we reunite. See you all at the next forum in Pakistan! 🇵🇰🕌 by @nakalun

by @nakalun
