Perched at the edge of the world. 🌊 Fanad Head Lighthouse standing tall against the wild Atlantic swells on the Donegal coast.

This iconic beacon wasn’t just built for its striking beauty, its origins are rooted in one of Lough Swilly’s darkest nights.

In December 1811, the HMS Saldanha was wrecked on these jagged rocks during a ferocious winter storm. Tragically, all 253 souls on board were lost. According to local legend, the only survivor to wash ashore was the ship’s parrot, wearing a silver collar engraved with the vessel’s name.

Following the tragedy, this lighthouse was commissioned to safely guide seafarers through the treacherous northern waters. First lit on St. Patrick’s Day in 1817, it has stood watch over this rugged peninsula for over two centuries.

There is something incredibly humbling about standing here, feeling the sea spray and thinking about the generations of lightkeepers who kept the flame alive through the harshest of Irish winters.

Standing on the edge of Kerry, looking out at those two jagged silhouettes, it’s hard to wrap your head around what actually happened out there!

Those are the Skellig Islands, Skellig Michael and Little Skellig.

Back in the 6th century, a group of Christian monks decided that standard solitude wasn’t enough. They rowed 12 kilometers out into the raw, unforgiving Atlantic, carved over 600 stone steps up a sheer rock cliff by hand, and built a monastery at the peak. No mortar, no modern tools - just stone beehive huts standing against centuries of ocean gales. They lived there in total isolation for nearly 600 years.

Fast forward to today: Little Skellig is a protected sanctuary for tens of thousands of gannets, while Skellig Michael holds UNESCO World Heritage status (and a brief starring role as Luke Skywalker’s hideout in Star Wars ⭐️)

Looking at them from the mainland, you realize you’re not just staring at a cool landscape, you’re looking at one of the most extreme chapters of human endurance ever written…for real 🌊📜

There’s something timeless about the Forty Foot. 🌊😎🏖️

For over 250 years, people have been jumping into the Irish Sea from this exact spot in Sandycove. It was originally an all-male bathing club, even getting a starring role in the opening chapter of James Joyce’s Ulysses, but thankfully, it’s now open to everyone brave enough to face the temperature 😄

I’ve visited it thought the years, including this one, and took a few photos too. Today’s blue skies and summer heat felt, in advance of the weekend, like the perfect excuse to share some.

Nothing quite beats the energy here when the sun finally decides to show up. ☀️🇮🇪

Stoneybatter, you absolute beauty! 😍🇮🇪

Today’s Stoneybatter Festival proved exactly why this neighborhood was voted one of the coolest in Dublin. The sun was out, the streets were alive, the food was incredible, and the community spirit was unmatched. From the live music to the dog show, Stoneybatter delivered 10/10 vibes today. 🎪🍻✨

Some events are about more than just the finish line.

Today’s Castleknock 5K was a brilliant reminder of what community is all about, people of all ages coming together to run, support local causes, and enjoy a great day out. The energy, positivity, and encouragement along the route were incredible.
