A brief look at a project I worked on earlier this year exploring pockets…
About six years ago, I became fascinated by what people keep in their pockets. I knew what was normally in mine, and I realized that my pockets told a story about what I was up to, where I had been, and where I was going.

Recognizing this, I set out to document the stories hidden in people’s pockets. I was curious to see whether one could guess what others carried and be somewhat accurate.

As I began photographing strangers and their pockets, I quickly understood that the idea of a “pocket” went beyond pants or jacket contents. The things we consistently keep within arm’s reach are snack-sized insights into the lives we live.

I hope you find these pictures as interesting as I do

P.s - I couldn’t have done this without @theworstgirlsgram and her contagious enthusiasm for initiating conversation with strangers and taking their photos. In fact, the day we shot these I had quite the morning of artistic self doubt. Then Jane and I had a conversation before we started shoot day which put the wind in my sails to keep pushing forward… by @nameisbread
