And here is one last Nias overshare for now 😂 This one is mostly a big shoutout to my beloved Bridget Bardos board @bardos_surf, which I have unfortunately snapped on the trip, but happily found a happy ending for her after fixing it with a local legend, using it for the reminder of my time there, and giving her a new forever home at @keyholesurfcamp 🌸 Bridget Bardos have been with me to four different countries and has been my go to travel board for the last couple of years; have also been used and loved by several mates, even those who are big short board heads lol. She will be missed, and cannot wait to get a new one, but so happy for the waves shared, and so stoked she is now a Nias local!!!

And just like that, I’m in my last few hours in Nias 🥹 A month here went in a blink of an eye.. Three weeks of having the absolute most fun in likely one of the most perfect waves in the world; and a final week of barrel training.
It’s been so wild to surf on literally mental days, try to pull in on the waves I have, survive some intense as wipeouts (going home with a lobster collection lol); but mostly it has been so special to get to know the people and community here; feeling incredibly blessed.
Cannot wait to be back, a bit more ready for a proper barrel!!! For now- terimakasih, tubo paga and satu lagi Nias taken in Nias Island by @nanabmello

Lil postcard from Nias 🥹 thank you legend @smoothy100 for the dreamy shot!!! It’s pretty wild for me to think that only just over seven years ago I discovered my love for surfing, and that in such a short period of time I’ve been incredibly blessed to surf some of the best waves around the globe. I quite honestly do not remember what my life looked like before this crazy beautiful life choice that is surfing, and hopefully I’ll never have to live a life where it’s not a passive part of me ever again. Feeling grateful ❤️ by @nanabmello

Here’s a quick (and not very well captured lol) summary of my last three weeks in Rote. This part of my trip was very much not in my original plan, but I’m stoked it ended up being that way. I think in the end it’s always about the people you meet.. and the people I was lucky to bump into here are nothing short of legends. Funny how now that I’m leaving the island, I’m feeling exactly the same as an old saying I stole from someone a few years back —> about arriving and leaving, and sometimes staying; always too long and never long enough. Much love for Rote, my epic new mates and a fair few waves, Bintangs, tacos and everything in between. Cheers and till next time. by @nanabmello

Um mesinho no meu Brasilzão!!! Depois de quase três anos e meio fora...
Nesse mês- vi minha irmãzinha da vida ter o casamento mais lindo que já vi com o amor da vida dela, vi minha outra irmãzinha da vida se tornar a celebrante mais foda do mundo no mesmo evento, comemorei meu aniversário em casa pela primeira vez em uma década, viramos a noite tomando 'cachaca' com a minha mãe, 'aprendi' a velejar com o meu pai, abracei todos os meus avôs, vi amigos queridíssimos.. Comi, bebi, dancei, surfei, velejei, viajei, chorei, sorri, e acima de tudo vivi!
Ir embora é sempre tão difícil.. Acho que eu esqueci disso um pouco por ter passado tanto tempo fora dessa vez (já discutido e agreed com a família e amigos que mais de três anos fora foi exagero, e tenho meta de voltar de dois em dois anos daqui pra frente).
Mas enfim- o importante é que o Brasil e pessoas maravilhosas que tenho aqui sempre vão ser uma parte gigante de mim, e esse último mês foi só mais uma prova deliciosa disso.

Today I turned 29 🥹 in all honesty, when growing up this is not what I thought life would look like at this age (I guess society expectations and all play a huge part here); but I think in a lot of ways it is much better - and more importantly it is exactly how I would like to be living right now.
With 29 years old - I do not own a house, do not have kids nor do I have a whole lot of money to my name ... But I've managed to live and accomplish more than I could have ever imagined.
I become a resident in the first place I've ever felt at home away from home (New Zealand), left my hometown with 19 years of age and never looked back, allowing myself to make dozens of cities and countries my temporary home over the past 10 years (with family developed in each) while still keeping key parts of my culture and essence with me; found my biggest passion, and managed to get decent (enough) at it - surfing, I'm writing my own music despite minimal musical knowledge (but huge admiration), am building a career with a lot of success and yet have the biggest life balance I've ever personally seen, crossed paths with countless of legendary humans around the world, coming to learn from and love each of them; putting myself in really bad situations at times, and taking myself out of them too.
Far from me to say my life's perfect or that I'm the perfect human lol, soo much room for growth, and epic moments and dreams to look forward to accomplishing.. But I guess all I am saying is that MAN at 29 years of age, It feels so good to feel this stoked on life 🫶 and thankful for each place, wave and human that makes me feel this way.
