She built her dream home around the way she loves to live.

Molly Mesnick loves to entertain and wanted an indoor-outdoor lifestyle for her Kirkland, Washington, home.

A NanaWall folding glass wall topped her wish list, connecting the living room and patio and making entertaining feel like one continuous space.

And with Generation 4's slimmer profiles, she gets more glass, more natural light, and more of the view.

Watch Molly explain why it was the one feature she knew she wanted.

The only design solution for indoor-outdoor living.⁣
⁣
#NanaWall systems are engineered for smooth, consistent operation, allowing you to open or close large areas effortlessly so the space can respond to weather, temperature, and use in real time.⁣
⁣
They are built to perform in changing conditions, helping maintain interior comfort while still allowing fresh air and access to the outdoors when desired.⁣
⁣
Options like low, barefoot-friendly sills also remove physical barriers, making movement between spaces more natural and continuous.⁣
⁣
Where would this make the biggest difference in your home? ⁣

A winter view is still a view worth opening the house to.⁣
⁣
Snow on the ridge, a clear cold morning, the first light on the lake. Most homes keep that behind fixed glass from November to April. The homes in this carousel open to it, on the days that allow, and seal tight for storm days, with views intact.
⁣
Each one carries a #NanaWall thermally broken glass system, built for cold climates and independently tested for air and water infiltration and thermal performance. Open, the room runs straight out to the snow. Closed, the thermal break and insulated glass keep the heat in and the view exactly where it was.⁣
⁣
For homeowners in mountain and cold-weather country, the wall that opens in July should be the same one that holds in January.⁣
⁣
Share this with someone building where real winter is part of the plan.⁣

The most exposed wall on this pool house is the 18-foot one that opens. It’s HVHZ-rated.⁣
⁣
On Long Island Sound, the water-facing wall takes the wind, the driven rain, and whatever the storm carries with it. Point One Architects put the biggest opening in the Clinton pool house on that side anyway, and specified it to hold.⁣
⁣
That wall is a six-panel #NanaWall SL73 folding glass system, the industry’s first hurricane-rated folding glass wall, Florida Product Approved for High Velocity Hurricane Zones. Reinforced structural posts run at every panel, and the dual stainless steel carriages sit above the water run-off level, so the door seals in both inswing and outswing configurations.⁣
⁣
Open, 18 feet of the pool house reads as part of the terrace. Closed, it performs like a solid wall, year-round.⁣
⁣
For architects working on shoreline projects, this is what it looks like when the opening is specified to the same standard as the structure.⁣

What if the opening in your home had to be as resilient as the rest of it?⁣
⁣
Resilient design gets specified into the structure, the roof, the envelope. The opening is where it usually gets negotiated down, because the largest piece of glass in the house is also the piece most exposed to wind, water, impact, and cold.⁣
⁣
The projects in this carousel didn’t negotiate. Each one carries a #NanaWall opening glass system tested to the same standard as the rest of the envelope. Systems are independently tested and certified for structural load, air and water infiltration, forced entry, and thermal performance, and built with impact-rated laminated glass and reinforced panels where the site demands it.⁣
⁣
Swipe to see resilient home designs including a hurricane-rated SL73 on a Gulf coast home, a home built for high-wind loads, and a coastal house designed for 14-foot waves and the storm surge behind them.⁣
⁣
For architects specifying resilience, the opening doesn’t have to be the weak point. It can be built to the same line as everything else.⁣

We’re thrilled to share that our Napa Valley home remodel is featured in the October issue of Marin Magazine!

Built by the clients’ parents in the 1960s, the home held deep family history and a strong sense of place. The goal was to update it for modern living while preserving the character and spirit of the original.

A reconfigured floor plan, raised ceilings, and thoughtfully updated spaces bring new life to the home, while structural improvements strengthen its resilience against wildfires and earthquakes. The result is a home that looks forward without losing sight of where it began. Click the link in our bio to check out the article.

Thank you to Marin Magazine for sharing the story of this special project!

A waterfront home should feel connected to the water, not just face it.⁣
⁣
This Myrtle Beach home transformed its relationship with the Intracoastal Waterway by replacing a solid exterior wall with #NanaWall folding glass walls.⁣
⁣
Now the living room and dining room can open directly to the water, bringing the view, fresh air, and outdoor living into the heart of the home. Pool, hot tub, outdoor bar and dock on one side, the whole main floor on the other, and nothing solid between them.⁣
⁣
Before and after by @surianohomes and Courtney Scott Real Estate Myrtle Beach.

Know a waterfront home with a wall in the way? Send this over.⁣

Can expansive glass openings stand up to extreme mountain winds?⁣
⁣
At the base of the Flatirons in Boulder, Colorado, this home sits in a special wind zone. After the 2021 Marshall Fire, the homeowners rebuilt with architect Ryan Costner of @eastslopedesignstudios and Boulder County builder @bykrueger, with wide openings to the landscape at the center of the design.⁣
⁣
“We had to design for 165-mile-an-hour winds, and on top of that, about 55-pound snow load per square foot,” says Costner.⁣
⁣
In the dining room, two 9-foot-tall, 9-foot-wide #NanaWall Generation 4 NW Aluminum 640 thermally broken aluminum framed folding glass systems open the dining room and bar onto a covered patio lounge. The doors are triple glazed for year-round comfort. Each system has a swing door for quick access when closed.⁣
⁣
Both systems were paired with a thermally broken Low Profile Saddle Sill with UniverSILL, a patented adapter that keeps the seal compressed between panels and sill in harsh weather. Krueger had installed NanaWall systems on earlier projects in the region and pointed to their long-term performance and durability. For architects designing in high wind load zones, it’s a strong example of planning performance into the design from the earliest stages.⁣

What happens when a three-season porch becomes part of the home’s thermal envelope?⁣
⁣
In northern Minnesota, a screened porch usually sits outside the conditioned line. It gets four good months and stays shut for the other eight. Strand Design put this one at the center of the house instead, between the dining room and the lake, and asked the wall behind it to do the envelope’s job.⁣
⁣
In this three-season room, @stranddesign used a #NanaWall thermally broken aluminum framed folding glass system with an integrated swing door. Open, the lounge becomes part of the main floor and the house runs straight out to the pines. Closed, the thermal break, insulated glass, and compression seals hold the conditioned line at the door, so the porch can drop to outdoor temperature without pulling the house down with it.⁣
⁣
Radiant heat overhead stretches the season on both ends. As David Strand put it, “It’s just a highly engineered piece of machinery: the hinges, the way it rolls, moves, and closes.”⁣
⁣
For architects working in cold climates, this is what it looks like to treat the operable wall as part of the envelope.⁣

A Colorado home should let you experience the mountains, not just look at them.

This Colorado home uses #NanaWall opening glass walls to connect the interior with its mountain setting, giving the homeowners the flexibility to enjoy the terrace and surrounding landscape throughout the seasons.

The great room opens at the touch of a button to a covered outdoor living area with an in-ground hot tub, a water feature, and sweeping Front Range views. Open, the two spaces read together as one. Closed, the glass wall seals, keeping views intact and the weather out, year-round.

Because indoor-outdoor living shouldn’t be limited to the months when the weather cooperates.
