Today was Doughnut Day in my Alla Prima class! It’s always a fun day of painting with side snacking warmly invited😄😋
I absolutely love how everyone’s paintings turned out so great, and with such individual style. My students are truly inspiring! Also, you might be amazed at how much there is to learn from closely observing a simple doughnut 😃
Alla Prima means essentially “all at once”. The artist completes an entire painting in just one session, often it can be just a sketch but sometimes the piece may look and be considered entirely finished. It’s a really valuable exercise at every level and builds observation, decision-making and paint handling. Plus, it is just plain fun! 😃

My fall classes begin next week 🤩 Can’t wait to hang out with folks, my students are the best! 🥰 I’m gearing up to teach two classes which both start next week at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA @mainlineartcenter

1) Alla Prima Painting
Tuesdays, October 6 – November 24 2026, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

To clarify: this class is open to all levels of expertise except total beginners! Anyone who knows even just the elementary basics of their preferred artistic medium is warmly welcome, as well as seasoned artists who want to get their alla prima on in a fun and supportive group⚡️🎨 Link in bio or contact the art center

2) Moving Along with Watercolors

Wednesdays, October 7 - December 2 2026, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

This class is strictly for watercolorists who have intermediate to advanced skills. Students work mainly on self-directed projects, though we will refresh skills and explore different techniques together through class exercises and discussions as we go along 💖🤩 Link in bio or contact the art center

Don’t hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions about either class 🤗 Come join the fun 💕

30 days of daily paintings from life for the #stradaeasel challenge which ended yesterday! These are oil on paper and linen, and watercolor and gouache on paper. I guess there’s a pen sketch in there too from a travel day 😅✈️
It was a good challenge and as always I got a lot out of it. I recommend it to all my artist friends and all my art students, very occasionally someone gives it a try 🤗 Oh well! Part of the fun is meeting new art friends from around the country and the world 🌍 Many thanks to my Strada cohort who kept the inspiration and encouragement flowing! 🤩🙏💕

This month included an incredibly fun art retreat I led in Portugal with @paintawaytours so there are 8 days of plein air painting in the mix 🎨 I’m slated to lead another art tour with the same tour company next September this time in the south of France 🇫🇷 Stay tuned for more info or message me to be on the email list! 🌻

Thanks again @strada.easel for hosting this wonderful challenge. Something like 1400 people started and about 700 of us finished, so yes, it is quite challenging! But worth it every time. The next one starts January 1 if you want to give it a try too 😃

Day 30 #stradaeasel Today is the last day of the #stradaeaselchallenge ❗️ It’s been a whole month of daily painting from life and posting. 💕 Thanks for the support and camaraderie everyone, very much needed and appreciated 🥰🙏 This challenge always leads me somewhere new in my studio practice, many thanks for running it @strada.easel

Silly little video to belatedly share that my painting “Zinnias in the Garden” is on exhibit now in the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico (PAPNM) 18th National Juried Members Exhibition 😃 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

I painted this en plein air on a lovely painting trip to Cape Cod last year 🌊 Ironically, with all the gorgeous scenery on hand my best painting was done in the back garden of the Quaker Meeting guest house where we were staying 😂#capecodart

The public and collectors are invited to view and purchase the artwork throughout the exhibition at the Gallery and on line. The exhibition may be viewed in person and also on the PAPNM website 🖼️ @papnm01

Exhibition: September 11 - October 16, 2026

The Gift, oil on linen, 5 inch oval
Day 29 of the #stradaeasel month-long daily painting challenge ✨ I can hardly believe tomorrow is the last day of the challenge, especially as a couple days ago I felt like throwing in the towel 😅💕Glad I didn’t! 🤗

Onion and Mushrooms, oil on paper, 9 inch oval, WIP (work-in-progress) Day 25 of the #stradaeasel month-long challenge. We’re in the home stretch 🤗
These are humble kitchen vegetables and one aspect of this challenge is that it is humbling! 😅💕The day in day out posting of work you might not otherwise have shared in its current state? Humbling. The seeing so many hundreds of fellow challengers trying their best and sticking with it despite occasional very serious obstacles (one participant posted from her hospital bed!) is also: humbling. And inspiring! 🌟🎨💕🌱

I’ve included my initial pencil sketch because it’s unusual, normally I just do a few quick loose marks with paint for placement ideas and then just dive in. But, I do switch things up from time to time 😊I’ve also posted another close-up shot of my painting apron, and quick snap of a disgruntled #studiocat who came up to the studio to fetch me: it was his dinnertime! 🐈

Tomatoes Big and Little, oil on linen, 7 inch oval Day 24 #stradaeasel
I love these school bus yellow-orange tomatoes I’m growing, though I don’t know what variety they are 😂 The seedling was sold to me as a “Mr. Stripey” but these are not those. So, your guess is as good as mine 🤷🏼‍♀️🍅
Swipe through to see my garden, my palette, this piece in two early painting stages and last but not least my darling #studiocat coming to visit me while I work 😻

Tithonia and Grapes, WIP (work in progress), oil on linen, 9 inch oval
Day 23 #stradaeasel

I am growing a beautiful bed of Tithonia (Mexican Sunflower) thanks to a kind friend who gave me some leftover seedlings 🧡🌱in late Spring 🙏

It’s been a while since I attempted to paint old blue and white patterned china, and I forgot how challenging it is (for me!) 💙😅🤍 Will have to take a few more passes on this one if I decide to finish it
