I met my younger self for hot chocolate today.

She was 18 and now 64. We both arrived 10 minutes early. She texted me from inside the cafe. “I’m here.”

She ordered a hot chocolate. I ordered a hot chocolate, no whipped cream.

She asked if we graduated college with a journalism degree. We co-owned a PR agency, sold it & now travel the globe as a freelance writer specializing in equestrian travel.

She seemed overwhelmed with running her business, marriage & raising 2 kids. I told her the hard work paid off. Married to her college sweetheart, she is now an empty nester, traveling the world.

She asked if we ever left Northern California, her birthplace. We moved back to Oregon during a pandemic. We live by 2 gorgeous rivers. We kayak often.

She asked if I still owned horses? No more horses. However, we’ve owned 4 Labrador Retrievers.

We said goodbye and promised to meet again. She’s a grandma now. Still riding horses and chasing cows.

I’ve been working as a travel writer since 2006.

I’m a 4th gen Northern California girl, now living in Oregon. 🌲

I specialize in equestrian travel and ride horses around the world. 🐴

I love to kayak. 🛶

My favorite food is chocolate! 🍫

I’m an extrovert, but terrible remembering names.

My husband is with me in San Sebastián exploring on his own.

@wallaroohats 2027 styles and colors have arrived. I’m wearing the Carkella Colin style in ivory. This is a unisex hat for men or women.

The 2nd slide I’m wearing the Snowmass felt hat in grey. I also have it in camel color.

The packable Kristy hat, 3rd & 4th slides, now comes in a dusty rose color.

I find myself wearing hats year round now that I’ve had basal & squamous cell carcinoma surgeries.

Most Wallaroo hats offer UPF 50+ sun protection. Do you like wearing hats?

We’ve been camping & kayaking in Central Oregon. Check out the bobcat that trotted through our campsite. We were dispersed camping in the Willamette National Forest.

I have some travel coming up. The folks @rei are dressing me from head to toe.

I’m wearing a Merino wool base layer, Sahara long-sleeve hiking shirt w UPF50 sun protection & zip pocket on the left. These are trailmade pull-on pants in petite size.

For added warmth, I have the 650 REI down jacket. My hiking shoes are from @obozfootwear a Montana-based B-corp company.

I’ll be traveling to Bhutan, Thailand and Japan soon. Three weeks of travel in one backpack.

We camped within Monterey, California city limits in our favorite campground. We could hear the ocean and watch deer and fawns wander in our campsite every night.

One of the many reasons I love @seemonterey

Do you enjoy camping? We started our roadtrip in Oregon’s Willamette Valley almost 2 weeks ago with Monterey, California being our final destination before heading home to Oregon.
