Hollywood has long thought U.S. audiences hated subtitles, but #SquidGame will be Netflix’s most popular series ever. To quote Bong Joon Ho, ‘Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.’ by @nancywyuen

So relatable: I’d wear my favorite coat everywhere too—red carpet, grocery shopping, going to the post office 😂.

Thanks @nadrakar for interviewing me for this excellent long piece on what Asian representation on the Dodgers means for the Asian American community. Great to be in a piece with @rtajimapena. by @nancywyuen

"La Push baby, it’s La Push." Rewatching Twilight for the nth time on @netflix and @justinchon's Eric Yorkie (did you know that's his surname?) always cracks me up. "Bella look, it's a worm!" by @nancywyuen

Just started Blossom on @iqiyi because it has the same director as Pursuit of Jade. Some items of note:
1) Director Zeng likes white haired male leads 👩🏼‍🦳 (thanks @mswang124 for the insight).
2) Who needs a hot priest when you have a hot monk.
3) Though this C-drama starts off much darker, I look forward to a good time regression story. by @nancywyuen

Are you still suffering from Pursuit of Jade withdrawal? ⚔️❤️‍🩹🐷

To help ease the pain, we put together a list of historical C-dramas and K-dramas (curated by @nancywyuen ) and East Asian-inspired fantasy novels (curated by @nancyslitlounge ) that share some of our favorite elements of PoJ (strong FMC, court intrigue, slow burn romance, stunning visuals, etc). Let us know if you have another recommendation for what to watch/read after PoJ!

💭Do you have a favorite book that you would love to see as a drama, or a drama that you would love to read as a novel? 🎬📖

📌See the pinned comments for titles & plot summaries!

(Shout out to @azhangia.reads for inspiring us to make our own PoJ fan post – check out her recommendations reel with mad video editing skills🤩)

“Hollywood has had a checkered history with Asian representation, to put it mildly. For decades, Asian American actors struggled to get jobs because they were not considered box office draws, said Nancy Wang Yuen, a professor at Crafton Hills College who studies race and ethnicity in film.

Decades passed between releases of contemporary Hollywood films with majority Asian and Asian American casts — after 1961’s “Flower Drum Song,” you don’t get “Joy Luck Club” until 1993 and then “Crazy Rich Asians” in 2018.”
