Trash treasure archive 01: Chunghwa 🇨🇳 Chunghwa has been created in 1951, and the brand name originates from its parent company, Zhonghua Tobacco Company. (Is currently owned by the Shanghai Tobacco Monopoly Bureau & Shanghai Tobacco Group Co., Ltd.) “Chunghwa” basically means China. It was developed under Mao Zedong’s instructions to be delivered to the Chinese government for government officials, and only from 1984 was it sold to the public. It appeared in the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun, with 23-carat gold bullets in them. (Excuse the low-res, that was the only images I could find 😶‍🌫️) by @nandal_seo

A day of scanning, storytelling and collective making 🛠️ at Nottingham Trent University @nottinghamtrentuni @ntuart , for MA Graphic Communication @ntugraphics_ma led by Dr Begüm Eken. Following our talk on ‘commonising design’, the cohort scanned and turned their kitchen objects into graphic elements, textures, and typography. The outcomes were later co-edited and transformed into a series of collective risograph zines under the ‘communal kitchen’ theme. Gaysians did have funnnn 🤭💅🏼👯 Pride month may be over- but we’re still buzzing from such a vibrant evening with our queer ESEA community 🌈 Huge love to everyone who came through, joined the raffle, hung out, danced, chatted, and made the night so special. 🗺️ SPILLLL VOL.4 IS HERE 🗺️ Our fourth zine, SPILLLL Vol.4: Migrating with Food, began with a trip to the Isle of Skye- sharing local ingredients, home recipes, and long conversations around the table. From there, we followed the traces of food across our own stories of migration: the meals we carry with us, the recipes that shift with place, and the small pieces of ourselves we leave around the globe. ⛰️🍜🍲🥟🍛 To celebrate the launch, we’re gathering at @thecommonpress Dalston for a night of mapping, talking, snacking and connecting the dots together. People ask me how my trip to Korea was and I answer with two sentences: “I gained 4kg in a month!” And “it was overwhelming.” The photos explain the 4kg part. Quite obvious. The overwhelming part (here goes a rant) was because I don’t know how to make these hellos goodbyes sustainable. Catching up friends’ and families’ weddings, babies, breakups, new partners, new jobs in a few weeks time. And then saying good bye with a “maybe see you- next year. Take care till then, love you.” A sense of bitterness and grief but not showing it too much because you chose this. You left them. Will I ever get used to this?
