Scrolling is anything but a mindless or relaxing activity for the brain.

As a mental health, nutrition, wellness, or medical practitioner who works with clients who experience cognitive fatigue, it’s imperative that you know how to determine whether someone’s digital behavior might be impacting their neuronutritional health. by @naneuronutrition

Every moment of your day requires the nervous system to do something.

Reading this post is no exception.

What often goes unrecognized is that these cognitive processes—focusing, deciding, prioritizing—depend on neurobiological systems that require energy and neuronutrients.

At the same time, those same cognitive processes influence our ability to acquire, prepare, initiate, regulate, and sustain nutritional behaviors.

This creates a reciprocal relationship:

Nutrition influences cognition and cognjtion influences nutrition.

The more we understand this relationship, the easier it becomes to understand why nutritional behaviors can become difficult during periods of stress, illness, sleep disruption, chronic pain, neurodivergence, mental health challenges, cognitive overload, or neurological disease.

This is one of the central questions explored within neuronutrition.

How does the way we eat influence the nervous system, and how does nervous system influence the way we eat? by @naneuronutrition

Rather than asking which diet is best for cognition and nervous system health, this study invites a different question:

What nutritional characteristics consistently appear across dietary patterns associated with better cognitive outcomes?

The answer may reveal more about nervous system health than any individual diet ever could. by @naneuronutrition

Every thought, emotion, memory, decision, sensation, and behavior emerges from the activity of a nervous system.

And the nervous system requires energy and neuronutrients—from food—to function.

This does not mean nutrition explains everything.

The human experience is shaped by countless biological, psychological, social, cultural, environmental, and developmental influences interacting continuously.

But it does mean that neuronutrition participates in processes we often think of as existing solely in the mind.

Attention
Learning
Motivation
Stress responses
Emotional regulation
Cognitive flexibility
Decision-making

These are not purely psychological phenomena.

They are neurobiological processes supported by neural tissue, neurotransmitters, metabolic pathways, and cellular energy production—all of which are made possible by neuronutrients.

If every experience is mediated through the nervous system, than neuronutrition deserves a place in any and all conversations about caring for the nervous system. by @naneuronutrition

Most of us were taught to think about health through a simple lens:

Cause → Effect

Eat this food, then this will happen.
Take this supplement, then you’ll feel this way.
Follow this routine, and you’ll notice this change.
Get this result, then you’ll be the person you want to be.

Human neurobiology rarely works that way.

The nervous system is a complex adaptive system shaped by countless variables: genetics, development, sleep, stress, relationships, immune system activity, environmental exposures, lived experiences, and countless other variables—all of which are interacting simultaneously.

This means the same input can produce different outcomes across different people, or even within the same person, on different days, in different contexts.

What appears as “inconsistency” is frequently the result of a nervous system adapting to changing conditions.

Understanding neuronutrition requires moving beyond linear thinking and becoming more comfortable with complexity, variability, and uncertainty.

Living systems are far more dynamic than simple explanations allow. by @naneuronutrition

Our neuronutritional behavior is mostly unconscious and has neurobiological underpinnings.

We can indeed make conscious and intentional food choices and decisions, and we can change some aspects of our food environment.

However, our food choices and decisions are expressions of numerous neurobiological messages and signals happening in our brain and body.

Today, nutritional approaches for mental health are often focused on promoting dietary adherence versus cultivating nutritional awareness and coherence.

There’s often little time or structure made available for people to explore how cognition influences their relationship with food.

Our program is the first and only neuronutrition training program that offers a nuanced and critical examination of how our nervous system, cognition, and environment influence the way we interact with food. by @naneuronutrition

Earning the NANCP™ certification opens a new world of possibilities for your career, your clients, your practice, and your life.

Students in the NANCP™ program often say this certification serves as the “missing piece” or “missing link” that allows them to move beyond surface-level recommendations and helps them understand their clients on a profoundly deeper level.

You’ll be able to guide and support your clients towards restoring trust in their bodies and move toward liberation from behaviors, beliefs and thoughts about food and their body that have kept them feeling stuck and overwhelmed—often for years despite working with other practitioners. by @naneuronutrition

Everything we know as healing, growth, recovery, and development is neuroplasticity at play.

Neuroplastic processes are made possibly by neuronutrients: the raw materials the body uses to form the basis of the brain’s existence and functioning and in turn, our conscious experience of our existence.

If you’re a mental health, nutrition or wellness professional who supports people through experiences of inducing neuroplasticity, you need to understand neuronutrition.

We created the first and only accredited, evidence-informed, neuroaffirming, and trauma-informed neuronutrition certification program for licensed and certified practitioners.

Early enrollment for our next two cohorts ends soon. by @naneuronutrition

You’ve seen too many clients fall through the cracks of a fragmented system that wasn’t designed for people who have experienced trauma, are neurodivergent, have multiple chronic health conditions, and a complex relationship with food.

You’ve witnessed how conventional nutrition care revolves around compliance and can reinforce self-blame, shame, guilt, and fear.

You know that the connection between brain health, mental health, the nervous system, and nutrition is real, and you believe that healing, growth, and recovery require more than surface-level interventions that focus on compliance and arbitrary protocols.

Most recently in your practice, you may have felt as though you’re hitting a wall.

You’ve been searching for a way to explain what you have witnessed and sensed with those you’ve been working with, but you haven’t had the language or framework to make sense of it all.

This program was built to change all of that.

The field of neuronutrition offers you an entirely new way to understand the how nutrition influences the nervous system, and how the nervous system influences our nutritional and mental health.

Whether you come from dietetics and nutrition, counseling or psychology, health and wellness coaching, or somatic and natural health, the NANCP program will give you the knowledge and skills to better support your clients, expand your practice, and feel more equipped, confident, and clear in your ability to facilitate meaningful change. by @naneuronutrition

The thoughts you have about food do not originate from your mind: they originate from a complex interplay between your brain, body, and your environment.

Many people who have a challenging and complex relationship with food blame themselves for the difficulties they have navigating their body in the context of food.

While our individual choices, thoughts, decisions, beliefs, and emotions do indeed influence our relationship with food, they are not the only aspects of our existence that do.

Some of us, for a variety of reasons, are more reactive and sensitive to food cues.

Understanding how this works can help you take better care of yourself and others. by @naneuronutrition
