💙 Today is World Narcolepsy Day.

Together, we're raising awareness, challenging misconceptions, and supporting everyone affected by narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia.

At Narcolepsy UK, we're proud of the community we've built and the lives we've touched. But we're not stopping there. We remain committed to providing support, improving understanding, amplifying patient voices, and working towards a brighter future for everyone affected.

Thank you to our staff, trustees, volunteers, supporters, healthcare professionals, families, and community members. Your support helps ensure that nobody has to face narcolepsy alone.

Together, we raise awareness. Together, we create change.

I am taking on the challenge of the Sheffield 10km to help raise money and awareness around narcolepsy. My best friend has narcolepsy, watching her live with this condition is inspiring. Seeing her show up and do her best everyday despite her body fighting against her constantly has given me the determination to complete the Sheffield 10km.

🌍💜 World Narcolepsy Day - 22nd September 2026 💜🌍

Do you live with narcolepsy? Or do you know someone who does?
Today is about awareness, understanding, and support for everyone affected by this often-misunderstood condition.

Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects around 1 in 2,500 people, that’s approximately 30,000 people in the UK! It disrupts the brain’s ability to regulate sleep and wake cycles, leading to symptoms such as:
😴 Excessive Daytime Sleepiness – overwhelming tiredness and sudden sleep attacks
❗ Cataplexy – sudden muscle weakness triggered by emotions (narcolepsy type 1)
🌙 Disrupted Night-time Sleep – broken or restless sleep
👁️ Hallucinations & Sleep Paralysis – vivid dream-like experiences at sleep onset or waking

💜 If you live with narcolepsy: Know that you are not alone. Support is out there.

💜 If you don’t have narcolepsy: You can make a real difference.
✔️ Reach out to friends, family, or colleagues who live with narcolepsy
✔️ Volunteer your time with Narcolepsy UK
✔️ Donate to help fund research, support networks, and resources

Every act of kindness, and every effort to spread awareness, helps build a world where people with narcolepsy are understood, supported, and empowered.

✨ Together, we can make sure no one with narcolepsy feels invisible or alone. ✨

Connect with others who truly understand what it's like to live with narcolepsy. Our meet ups bring together people with narcolepsy, along with their families, friends, and carers, in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Share experiences, make new connections, and learn from others who face similar challenges. For many attendees, it's the first time they've met someone else living with narcolepsy, making it a memorable and empowering experience.
We regularly receive fantastic feedback from both attendees and hosts, and we'd love for you to be part of it.

You're very welcome to bring family members, friends, or carers for support.

SOUTH LONDON MEET UP
for World Narcolepsy Day

Date and Time
20 September 2026
1pm - 3pm

Location
Crystal Palace Park,
Thicket Road,
London
SE19 2GA

This event is for people with Narcolepsy, their friends, families and carers. We will erect a gazebo in Crystal Palace Park, which means this event will take place outdoors and is weather dependent. We will meet on the grass near the Brown & Green Life Cafe, which is by the Thicket Road entrance. There is also a free, accessible toilet close by. The park offers a food market close to where we are situated, so bringing along a picnic is optional. Please do bring a picnic blanket/seating, water bottles and come and enjoy a relaxed meet up with us!

Crystal Palace Park is just a short walk from Crystal Palace Station or Penge West Station, with Anerley and Penge East nearby.
The park is also served by several bus routes and there are three car parks - Thicket Road, Anerley Hill, and Crystal Palace Park Road. Car parking charges apply and Blue Badge ticket holders are exempt from parking charges.

Kaitlin’s Story

Running my first 5k for Narcolepsy UK was something I never imagined I would do, but it was so much more than just crossing the finish line. It was about raising awareness, supporting a charity that means so much to me, and showing that narcolepsy doesn’t have to stop you from achieving your goals.

If you’re thinking about fundraising, taking part in a run, or simply donating, every little bit makes a difference. Your support helps Narcolepsy UK continue to raise awareness, support people living with narcolepsy, and work towards a better future for everyone affected.

You don’t have to run a 5k to make a difference — every donation, every fundraiser and every bit of awareness helps.

If you’d like to support Narcolepsy UK, donate, set up your own fundraiser, or join me for next year’s 5k - I’d love to see you there💜
