i listened to kenny chesneys album “no shoes, no shirt, no problem” on the way to Chicago after a week with my 5 year old best friend. the album was really giving grief due to the passage of time with a sprinkle of “on the beach… pain doesn’t exist”. not quite the party album we all remember it to be. anyway this all feels pertinent because consumption demands us to optimize! to say “COMPUTA- MAKE MY LIFE REALLY MEMORABLE”! “COMPUTA- PACKAGE UP MY SUMMA FOR DA HIGHLIGHT REELS”! and yet in our hearts we’re singin about being young and wearing rock and roll t-shirts and skipping class and parking our little butts in what has been… frantic to ensure that the next clip of time is just as worthy of daydreaming about. for what? and for who? for the sake of consumption? to pack my life into a little bite sized click that lasts for a moment? AND YET!!!! time continues. time demands that we adopt a no shoes, no shirt, no problem policy. time demands that we get a little drunk, a little weird, and sing about the beach in a city bar with your best friends that you spend a lot of time saying “remember when!” cause one day my 5 year old best friend won’t need to hold my hand crossing the street. she’ll be running wild only god knows where with her aunties many many years down the line. and thank GOD for that.

i started therapy this summer. scales seem to be falling from my eyes! it seems that if we don’t take care the scales will return from time to time. i spent years ripping them off, desperate to see and touch and feel and in the process i never purchased that lifetime warranty. we must have eyes to see! to enjoy! goodness is no longer defined by action or inaction! mary says we must only let the soft animal of our bodies love! what is good? it is certainly no measure for a life well lived. i want a life filled with earnest and presence and reciprocity as knee jerk reaction. i dont want to determine actionable items and metrics and chasing chasing chasing. climbing a ladder makes me sick! to live is to sink into the ants that make their way to our sweet sticky watermelon. to LIVE is to watch the flowers in bloom year in and year out. to realize we are no different! ants have burial grounds too. and to the earth we will return one day. our survival instincts are as follows according to a girl like me: to love and be loved. i owe everyone everything and funny enough i owe that same everything to myself! how does one love reciprocally if one does not even find comfort in the solitude of themselves. i hope to ease into myself everyday. to know that we’re all the same. to know that phoebe bridgers takes pictures with gas station beavers just like us. there is hardly separation between us. we just have to keep removing the scales of isolation! by @narnarmcgraw

One day we were roommates and working for what honestly felt like a Christian cult… and now she’s opening her own coffee cart and thriving as her full lesbian self. If that’s not character development, I don’t know what is. 😭☕️🌈

Watching @_oddluck finally open after her dreaming about it since 2015 felt surreal. So proud of you, Court. We really escaped, got hot, and started making our dreams come true.

It turns out life happens in spite of it and because of it. It turns out when you pray for the very thing you get you must tend to it so gently and yet with such purpose!!! It turns out that this year I got everything I asked God for. And remember what I said about tending to the things you’ve been given? I’ve been tending to my life. Watering the seeds that were planted many moons ago and next year I expect to watch them grow even bigger than my 15 foot sunflowers that grow in front of my house each summer. We must keep watering! We must keep tending! A very special shout out to my wife who has held my feet to the ground and kept my wings in flight for the moon and the sun and the stars. She keeps my world on a steady axis of love and wonder. Happy soon to be new year my little rascals. by @narnarmcgraw
