Narrow Window is a creative studio based in Melbourne. There are two of us, Jimmy & Jane, and you work directly with us.

We design, produce and make high-quality interior products, alongside select restoration work, interior advice, and curated one-off furniture pieces.

We’re drawn to things with personality. Texture, layers, irregularity, the marks of a human hand. We’re not interested in designing for the broadest appeal or sanding things back until they’re easy to digest. There’s no soul in that. We believe in detail, in decoration, in making things that feel considered and alive.

Our work is shaped by a love of music, film, and seeing the world through a creative lens. It keeps us focused on making things that feel like something, not that just look the part.

We keep the process simple. Every project is approached thoughtfully, shaped by the space, the brief, and the people using it, not by the latest trends or templates.

We can be involved from the very beginning. Consulting, designing, making, and installing everything ourselves.

All of our work is produced in Melbourne, with projects delivered across Australia.

We see potential where others don’t, and we know how to bring it forward without stripping away what makes it interesting. We take on custom commissions when needed, as well as developing original pieces.

Our practice spans multiple disciplines, allowing us to layer our skills and solve complex briefs without overcomplicating the process. It also means we can be a single, reliable point of contact when a project calls for something unusual, or for more than one thing at once.

We care about making things properly. Work that lasts, performs, and holds up over time, in both build and feel.

This piece of reclaimed pine furniture, made by Keen Classics in the north of England, came to us from @alessandrasmith_design with a brief to make it more magical and special for her clients little girls room.

We were almost instantly on the same page about what would work well over the already painted and aged carcass.

We talked about literary references such as C.S Lewis’ ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ and May Gibbs’ ‘Gumnut Babies’.

It had been used as a tv unit, so there were some cable holes to patch, a shelf that needed removing, some striping and refinishing, and then we utilised @karenwalker ‘s beautiful paint range in collaboration with @resenecolour . We also used a gold guilding wax in favour of a metallic paint for the timber trims and mouldings. We added door catches and modified the doors to make easier to open and close for a small person.

We probably spent more time staring at this trying to plot everything out than actually working directly on it. We’re really proud of the outcome and as always it’s a lot of fun for us to get to do something a little different from our usual work!

We loved working with this client 🩷

After an initial cushion consultation, we curated a selection of designs and fabrics from our collection, then brought everything together in a tailored presentation.

Seeing the finished cushions in their space is always the best part. Beautifully considered, completely personal, and made to last.

For custom cushion consultations our studio is always open to new projects.

When we were commissioned to supply a pool table as part of a wider collection of custom pieces for a very unique games room we designed. We of course jumped at the opportunity to acquire an old ‘one piece’ slate pool table and do what we do when it comes to refurbishment.

As a design practice our willingness to think outside the box and attempt new things knows no bounds. We quickly went from having basic knowledge of pool tables to knowing far too much about pool tables!

Whether you want something designed and made from scratch or want to save something beloved from despair, we are there for the challenge.

For the first time, we’re offering these stunning abstract vintage Italian sconces by Leucos, made in Italy in the 1970s.

Certified Vetri Murano glass. Two matching, and one is a very slight variant, as a pair or use as a triptych.

Each has been meticulously restored (these were a bit of a mess when they came to us!) Re-powder coated and all new wiring and fittings.

They can be mounted facing upwards or downwards, depending on the space and your preference.

They come ready to install.

So we make them ourselves.

We’ve got a curated, limited run collection in stock, or we offer custom cushion consultations with access to our curated collection of fabrics available in our workshop. Consultations can be done face-to-face or online, where we’ll recommend fabric and cushion options tailored to your overall design palette, concept, and space.

Some extended window seat cushions with matching bolsters, made for a @mitchellandeades project.
Upholstered in the charming @sahco_official ‘Acca Stripe’ they brought warmth and tactility to the long hallway space.

All 100% Made in Melbourne, with a focus on proportion, comfort, and finish.

These custom entryway benches are something a little different from us.

However, this is where we thrive and it’s honestly what we love to do. It’s a true representation of how we like to work across different mediums within our studio.

In this case, a stunning pair of bespoke benches with integrated umbrella traps, all made in Melbourne and produced by us for a @mitchellandeades project.

The blackened steel finish develops a natural patina over time, organic, evolving, and completely unique to each piece.
