Natalia Chanes was the Adventure Lens Grant recipient, meaning she accompanied the Mount Baker expedition to document, learn, and showcase what happens from the eyes of our recipients. We connect our recipients to industry expert, Savannah Cummins, who mentors them and is able to answer all things related to expedition media. Natalia wrote about her experience on our blog, revealing what happens behind the camera that many don't see.
Earlier this year, I was awarded the Adventure Lens Grant from Summit Scholarship, a grant that supports women interested in mountain filmmaking. As part of it, I traveled to document an all-women's mountaineering expedition on Mount Baker, where participants between the ages of 14 and 22 learned the fundamentals of mountaineering. I can't remember the last time I felt that nervous and that excited at the same time. But from the very first day, I was surrounded by incredible women who made me feel welcome and safe. It's an experience I'll carry with me for a long time, with people I'll never forget (and a marmot attack). Thank you to @summitscholarshipfoundation and @awexpeditions for creating opportunities like this, opportunities that simply wouldn't have been possible for me in Mexico. And thank you to @sav.cummins , for sharing your knowledge so generously. To @jose.chuchi , for always believing in me. And to all of my friends who continue to share the mountains with me. #patagonia #elchalten #chalten by @natalia_chanes
