Wooooo!!! Welcome to your 40s, I've been waiting a whole 53 weeks for you! I remember we used to fight all the time... and then when we realized how much more we could get away with being on the same team, we were unstoppable. 🤪 I'm grateful for you and all that you teach me. The most ironic part of my mom's funeral is that she's the one I want to talk to about it. Just like after any wedding or big family party, I want to call her in the day(s) following to rehash, process, reflect.. who was there, who wasn't; how beautiful the flowers were; the sweet thing that so-and-so said that made me laugh/cry/both; how proud we are of all the kids' involvement in the Mass and how stoically they performed their parts; how incredible the amount of people that contributed time and money to show up and make it all happen; how much she loved that so many wore pink🩷. I crave seeing it all from her perspective and hearing her thoughts, and it feels like she's still expecting my call. 🥺 Now that the frantic planning of the funeral is over and the interment has taken place, her absence has room to spread out and settle in. And so we take a deep breath and a seemingly impossible step forward. by @nataliasalterego

I know there are people in her life that should know that I've probably forgotten to inform, so if you know people she might have known, feel free to share. My dad chose the photo. Such a natural smile, hair and makeup on point. 👌 She'd approve. Still surreal, you just never know which is going to be *the* photo. by @nataliasalterego

My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I haven't been able to bring myself to share here, but it's Día de Los Muertos and somehow, the world keeps turning. My beautiful mother died suddenly on Monday. My only consolations are that she did not suffer, and she is finally reunited with her own mother, whom she missed fiercely for the last 29 years. I am in a daze, it just doesn't seem real. Second photo is from my 40th birthday this past February. I didn't feel like doing much, but I'm grateful I allowed my family to celebrate me because that made her so happy. She was vibrant and warm, and honestly, her love is larger than life. It will reverberate through her loved ones for years and generations. I love you, Mom. 💕 by @nataliasalterego
