a lot of people have shared their stories at this week @universityofvermont — I’m overwhelmed by emotion and in awe of the courage and strength I’ve seen from all the people who have spoken up for themselves and/or amplified the voices of others. I admire you, and I thank you. As someone who is not ready to publicly share her story, I want to share what I have done and how I have taken action.

Experiences of sexual assault leave survivors with confusion, guilt, and shame, among many other painful feelings. They experience these feelings all over again when deciding whether they want to report. They often live with the fear that their choice not to report is harming the lives of others. The traumatic effects of sexual misconduct can permeate a person, a family, or a community for generations.

To those who want to take action but remain anonymous (as well as individuals who have made their stories public), I encourage you all to check out @jdoejustice and @callisto. These apps/websites offer a means to share/report your story anonymously. They help can help you by:

1. Identifying repeat offenders
2. Providing direct access to civil lawyers and prosecutors (but only if you end up wanting to pursue this route!), circumventing authorities who may not have survivors' best interests in mind
3. Ensuring survivors and witnesses have complete control over their story.

I have used & anonymously reported on JDoe. I am also in contact with Callisto to help connect them to current students at UVM who can help to give the tool a presence on campus. I realize these apps are complex and confusing, PLEASE reach out to me with questions! If someone wants I could make a video or somethin about how it works maybe? Let me know!

I hope that others who do not feel ready to share their story feel seen. Just because your story is not public or not reported does not make it any less real. I support you, I believe you, and I am sending my thoughts and love to you! ❤️
