Happy Father’s Day, Babe. Thanks for being brave enough to carve out a new road for our tribe. You work so hard for the good of your people…what a legacy you are building, day by day. In fatherhood, you model vulnerability, wear your heart on your sleeve, and give language to the complexity of life; and in turn you’ve empowered our children to courageously do the same. 21 years married today and we walked down the aisle to this song.✨Officially been together longer than we’ve been apart. Not a soul on earth knows us better than we know each other. We know one another’s shiniest golden qualities and all the shadowy places that haven’t been fully refined or surrendered. But we keep showin’ up, letting go, trying to stay curious and ever-open, forgiving, laughin’ our asses off (often) fighting for our collective greater story and the holy work of Becoming. Our pain is where the Love can pour OUT…not just where the Light can enter, as Rumi wisely said.✨Ever feel stuck somewhere deep in your bones?Like you have this nagging, intuitive sense there’s SO much more to life than what you’re actually experiencing? Do you wonder if you’ll ever find YOUR THING?I carried these questions for many years…till I discovered the only lasting way forward into beauty and meaning, was to first make the brave trek backward…to that long ago tender place my heart was first broken…back to that precious little pain-filled girl inside that was crying out all these years.Sounds kinda weird, right? I may’ve thought so too back then.Till I found her.✨Till I held her tenderly and soothed her heart long enough for her to finally calm down. I made her feel safe.😭🩷And you know what?She had very important things to say and treasures to behold.✨And I allowed them all to be heard, felt and witnessed. The rhythms of family change through the years. It’s a Universal Law most don’t discuss in early motherhood. Babies are born, loved ones get sick, friend groups move, dreams die to make room for new ones, hearts + beliefs expand…children grow and spread their wings. And I’ll be honest…part of the change I welcome and love! Like, extra sleep on weekends, the gift of time to drink a whole cup of coffee in ONE sitting…deep talks with teenagers curled up beside me while I read in bed and kids that help cook dinner…But there are tender parts that break my heart in a way I can’t share without bawling. It’s an ache at the very core of me.But I promise you this:I will embrace + cherish and celebrate every last moment of childhood that’s left for them. What an honor it’s been to be here through the evolving rhythms of childhood and family. It aches because it is real LOVE and to LOVE is to welcome the ache sometimes. Happy 11th Birthday, Darlin Ivy Bean! You’re our spicy, golden-hearted, hilarious best baby of the family that ever was!I gotta be honest though…the passage of time quietly breaks my heart on these seminal days with my babies. Us all growing up and growin’ older aches in me in a different way after losing my Mama…But I’m choosing to press into the rich memories we’re makin and alll the joy, FUN adventures, good lovin’ and “we’re just getting started,” vibes I can muster.
