This exercise takes the abstract metaphor and grounds it into a concrete, visual practice to help clear emotional clutter.
Step 1: Draw the Horizon
Take a blank piece of paper and divide it vertically down the middle into two columns:
Left Side: Draw a Sun ☀️
Right Side: Draw a Rain Cloud 🌧️
Step 2: Name the Weather
Under the Sun: Write down 2–3 things you are genuinely grateful for right now—the wins, the comforts, or the good fortune in your life.
Under the Rain Cloud: Write down 2–3 things you are actively grieving, missing, or struggling with—a loss, a disappointment, or a hard reality.
Step 3: The “Sunshower” Bridge (The Key Action)
In the middle space between the columns, write down one statement that bridge both realities without canceling either out. Use the structure: “I am deeply thankful for __________, AND I am allowed to grieve __________.”please use the word “AND” instead of “BUT”. “But” tends to erase what came before it, whereas “AND” gives both truths equal permission to exist.
What you Can Draw / Take Away From This Exercise
When you go through this exercise, here are the core realizations they can walk away with:
1. Gratitude Doesn’t Require Perfection
You don’t have to wait for the rain to stop before you appreciate the warmth of the sun. Gratitude and grief can sit at the same table.
2. Grief Isn’t Ingratitude
Mourning a loss or feeling sad about a hard circumstance doesn’t mean you are ungrateful for your blessings. Honoring your pain isn’t a betrayal of your joy.
3. Emotional Agility Over Toxic Positivity
True resilience isn’t pretending it’s not raining; it’s learning how to hold your umbrella while still feeling the sun on your face.
4. Sunshowers Pass, But Rainbows Need Both
Phenomenological weather reminds us that a sunshower is often what creates a rainbow. You can’t get that specific beauty without light and moisture meeting at the exact same moment. by @natalieknowsugc

1. Key Figures & Timeline
* Active Operational Period: 71 years (1910–1981). Built during Arizona’s territorial era, two years before statehood in 1912.
* Structure: A 3-story reinforced concrete building constructed to replace smaller holding cells that couldn’t handle Globe’s booming mining population.
* 4th Generation Jail: This was the 4th facility used in Globe, replacing an earlier, overcrowded 16-cell facility from 1905.
2. Notable History & Events
* The 1911 Sniper Murder Mystery: Inmate Kingsley Olds, awaiting trial, was assassinated by an unknown sniper firing through a window. The crime remains unsolved to this day.
* Yuma Prison Mule Transport: The heavy steel locking systems were hauled over 200 miles from the decommissioned Yuma Territorial Prison by mule train. Tour guides can still use the restored lever mechanism to lock cells.
