Minfulness snacks 🥨

Let’s think about snacks…

As far as food is concerned, when you snack all day you’re eventually satisfied right…?

⏯️ Lets take this into daily mindfulness.

When our days are busy and the emotional bucket is overflowing, how do we make our day more satisfying?

Mindfulness snacks.

It’s quite simple, and something that office workers are advised to do to remove themselves from screen-time, and to reduce stress.

⏯️ But we ALL need this.

Trying to rectify the busy-ness of your day by forcing a half-hour relaxation session in before bed won’t quite work in helping us relax.

If you imagine that every experience in your day fills and fills and fills you up to a stress funnel, one pre-bed session is trying to force all the experiences back down that funnel.

Breaking up the day after each experience, with 5-10 minutes of STOPPING helps the experiences not peak into a funnel. Every moment can be absorbed, felt, thought about, or disregarded, rather than clustered in an already active body.

⏯️ Mindfulness snacks help the day be more satisfying.

🍒 Try these steps:

1. Sit. Notice your feet on the ground, the weight of your body.
2. Wherever you are, become aware of the quiet movement of breath and heartbeat.
3. Focus on your contact with the ground, and the movement of breath.
4. Notice your skin, what is touching your skin; clothes, hair, the air surrounding you, and so on.
5. Absorb this experience.
6. Begin to use your other senses; what can you see (even if eyes are closed), smell, hear, taste.
7. What else do you notice in your body, now you’ve engaged with your senses?
8. Ask yourself - how do I feel, what is my mood, my emotion, how is my body?

🍒 Do all of this between as many experiences as you can, without judgement, just noticing, accepting. It is what it is, and forcing doesn’t make anything unwanted change.

🍒 Smile to yourself, take a deep breath, and relax your shoulders.

The more snacks you have, the more satisfying the day will become 🥨 by @natarajayogauk

@bjjsummerweek_ 2026 wrapped up 💫

You think yoga creates community - try this…

Annual continuous friendships, development, and endless support.

I’ve learned SO MUCH about this practice, and therefore how to ACTUALLY apply my physiology and yoga asana knowledge to support it.

The skill and focus of the people who attend spans such a range, everyone is different - some compete, some take seminars, some bring friends and family, some are kids, some are seasoned professionals.

And @hapusyogi and I teach yoga skills in-between all the jujitsu busy-ness.

Why do I enjoy this so much? Isn’t it just teaching athletes to stretch…?

Far from it.

Jujitsu (Japanese) has a long heritage as does yoga, a set of skills and philosophies that developed from C8th focused around manipulating an opponent’s energy. The practice involves core principles and life applications around mindset, determination, remaining calm under pressure, and so on…

FUNCTIONALLY, jujitsu athletes love yoga because it encourages flexibility, strength, and can help with balance and proprioception - useful for grappling, resisting take-downs, shrimping and upa (hip control), and controlled use of all limbs.

SUBTLY, yoga offers them guidance through breath control, nervous system regulation, finding relaxation and release creating better physical responses to explosive activity. If you can’t breathe and regulate when you’re in a hold, you’re out…

Being able to take my knowledge and directly IMPLEMENT it in another situation, for a different journey, is so damned cool.

This isn’t just another class with weekly regulars…

Our PURPOSE is to deliver tailored sessions, work with different bodies, it’s both planned and unexpected at the same time. Having to think, respond, and deliver according to who is in front of me, is the best development opportunity one could ask for.

From a power class testing reflexes and senses for postural control aiding balance and proprioception, to a soft release and restore class after a days training to relieve tension and support connective tissue health… We’ve got it all on our schedule.

And do the athletes love it…? I think so 🫣

Cheers to next year Sardinia 😘 taken in Cagliari, Italy by @natarajayogauk

❤️My heart is full…❤️

But I don’t want it to be!

That sounds weird, right? 😳

In Taoism when the heart is full it has no room to breathe, to know how to respond, how to function fully. It’s occupied and burdened with experiences.

⏯️ The key is to empty the heart - not to become void of love and compassion, but to create space to be at ease.

When we’re filled up with experiences - good and bad - sometimes we feel overwhelmed, even with a smile on our face things become difficult to navigate and we need to withdraw. Withdrawing is emptying the heart, rebalancing, revisiting how to respond, rather than react because our resources are running low.

⏯️ I talk about the heart-mind in my Elemental Yin training - a concept that treats emotional feeling and rational thinking as a single, unified faculty. The heart-mind uses all our senses, carrying impressions from all of our experiences.

So yes your heart might be full, but as the Tao Te Ching guides, empty the bowl and allow the vessel to be free to carry new goods.

Often, resting in quietness of Yin and emptying is good.

Enjoy a selection of pics since before I went to Sardinia - amazing Indian music night with my bestie, people and places on the magnificent Italian island, phenomenal food, day trips with my man, and the wedding of the century.

This vessel stayed home and emptied last night 😅🙏🏼 by @natarajayogauk

🎃 OCTOBER SEQUENCE 🎃

Can anyone spot where a daring individual might slot in a #chinstand in this sequence….?

Try it 😉

This one is all about hips…

Moving hips in all directions really, and twisting the spine, and activating the pelvic area.

⏯️ The sideways lifts AKA Shiva Twist is *really* good for mobilising the spine and pelvis…. I had a guy with vertebral disc issues used to come to my classes and he adored this - he said nothing else had made his spine feel so at ease 🥰

What to say about this, other than HAVE FUN with it!

✨ Chest down (Locust pose variation) - try not to collapse onto the ground, keep arms active and hover a centimetre over your mat.
✨ Shiva Twist - again try not to collapse to the ground, keep some engagement in inner thighs and particularly the supporting hand, squeeze your glutes and swing your hips, don’t fully land!
✨ When turning to the half squat (Skandasana) you might come off your mat to the front - so what, that’s better than starting to fuss with your feet… Just keep flowing.
✨ Take out the ‘foot grab’ parts if that affects your balance too much and get used to the flow steadily, piece by piece.
✨ Taking the Standing Figure 4 twist at the end, bend your standing leg and use your hands to twist yourself over - it’s a wobbly one!
✨ And PLEASE remember - Side Angle Pose / #Parsvakonasana is an angle, so make your body into an angle…. It’s my favourite pose 🥹

🎃 As you can see, Grasshopper Pose (the closing arm balance) is optional and a tricky one for stiff “oh its autumn” early morning bodies 😂

⏯️ GRASSHOPPER POSE TIPS:
- Deep twist in Standing Figure 4
- Push the foot into the arm, and the arm back into the foot - don’t let that go!
- Squat as close as you can to the ground brining back hand down first and keeping the connected arm always bent so you don’t lose the foot
- Push away from the ground as with all arm balances, F-L-Y 🧚🏽‍♀️

Let me know how it goes….?

Not to recreate the past
But to see what happens when you get close to it again

@etjenvdv 🤍

Sometimes when we consider our past, at least the disruptive parts, we force ourselves to ‘move on’ and ‘let it go’. We can place ourselves in a position of erasure and even regret…

I’ve never been one for regret.

Even the pathetic and stupid things I’ve done in my life led me somewhere, and somehow I’ve always had an acceptance of that being okay. The situations, not necessarily okay at all…. But they exist, they’ve happened, and there’s nothing I can do to change them.

Hanging onto regrets about the past is, well, a dramatic waste of energy really.

But moving on from situations is often necessary.

It’s good to revisit the past, if it’s safe to do so. To reconsider maybe, to make peace with what has passed, to evaluate how much we’ve grown and developed, to celebrate the wins that have happened.

Maybe we reconnect with parts of the past once the time is right, people from the past or places, as an act of learning, nostalgia, understanding.

Dwelling though, on regret or old pain, can keep you trapped in a negative loop. Sometimes even desperately trying to recreate good times causes stress and disappointment because nothing will be precisely the same as it was before.

That’s an anxious attachment to desire.

So no attaching, no longing - just pop in.

Visit memories like an old friend and leave when you have to…

>> unrelated photo (in a way) that my old friend @dominique_duus took of me in the first year that we met. I revisited her the other day, which was absolutely magical ✨ by @natarajayogauk

🌀Elemental Yin ‘How To’ 🌀

Rolling Panda - starting in Thread Needle 🐼

❤️ This is my FAVOURITE, I just love what it does for my body ❤️

How does it make you feel….?

Working with the energies of the body this is opening up the backline, which we usually do with a Water Element practice (Bladder meridian lines).

Personally I also use this for Fire Element, working with the back of the neck and shoulderblades and into the Small Intestine meridian lines.

⏯️ Physically it’s a great stretch out for spine, shoulders, neck. It can relieve daily tension, mounting headaches, back pain…

HOW TO:

- Starting on hands and knees, thread one arm under the chest and rest for a few breath to allow the shoulder to relax and your body connect with the ground.

- Maybe this is where you stay…

- Wriggle a little 😉

- Maybe there’s the urge to tuck under further, shifting your bodyweight into the opposite knee.

- To counterbalance this, take the leg you can see to the side so you balance.

- Maybe this is where you stay…

- Maybe, you feel the back stretching out and eventually you tuck your head, stretch the neck, and reach for the ankle / foot on your extended leg.

- it’s nice to reach what will be your top arm FORWARDS rather than around the waist, so you can increase space between shoulderblades and across the upper back…

- I find that I move a little, and over TIME my bodyweight shifts… ⏰

- There’s a push-pull feeling to this, allowing gravity to take over but also creating your own stretch by securing the hold on the leg so the parts of your body on the ground really feel some stress through the tissues.

🐼 Remember: stay in the pose, but don’t ‘hold’ the pose, breathe - allow there to be movement and as always, wriggling…

Enjoy 🥰 by @natarajayogauk

✈️ Airport Yoga ✈️

Or also - De-Desk Yourself….

Any time you’ve been sitting for a long time, compressing your body somewhere somehow, it needs to be opened up in order to function properly.

We need flowing blood, open lungs, a mobile spine at the least….

And flying - that’s the worst for your body. All that air pressure 😵‍💫

So whether you’ve been sat on a plane, train, in an automobile or at a desk… my tip is:

🫧Smoochy September Sequence🫧

What to say, what to say….

This one is about embracing fluidity, like REALLY embracing fluidity.

Understanding the difference between strength (necessary) and tension (unnecessary) in movement.

Understanding steady balance and weight transfer in movement.

Understanding the juxtaposition of air and earth, playfully shifting between both with ease, effortlessly…

This is a real creative flow, and it needs focus to embrace the essence of vinyāsa - literally translated as “to place in a special or specific way” which shapes the entire practice.

Breath.
Movement.
Transition.
Alignment - of your breath with your movement.

🫧 Visualise yourself as an object carried by air, a gust of wind carrying you upwards and outwards into expansion. When the wind eases you gracefully land and embrace gravity, then lift again delicately as the wind rises…

⏯️ My inspiration for this came from Shiva’s dance of bliss, as he stood on the demon Apasmara (ignorance and ego) and the surrounding sages realised that wisdom comes from surrender, not empty and performative displays…

⏯️ The philosophy teaches that while the universe is constantly moving, pure consciousness remains still at the centre.

⏯️ Can you spot the Anandatandava in the sequence…..?

Oh - TIPS:

💃🏽That Baby Grasshopper pose, lots going on in that. It’s a drop-and-twist, your supporting arm HAS to act like it’s in Chaturanga, and your extended arm and leg ‘sandwich’ the supporting knee, otherwise there’s no locking in for the pose…

💃🏽Feel free to add in a Bakasana towards the end, or whatever arm balance you like playing with just to spice it up a bit…

💃🏽Don’t worry if you overbalance - that’s the frustrated controlling part of your ego dissolving 😉

That’s it!

Enjoy loves ❤️ by @natarajayogauk

Let go of the need to be something
To act on something
To achieve something

All of the time there are demands on us

Being nothing
Just being
Nothing else

Being

Fire and Water in balance
Fire and flow

Presence.

🤡 Meme time 🤡

A photo of me 18 years ago, with abs and good hair 🏆

On the ‘inside’ I was in peak ‘survival mode’ - ten years or so out of drug addiction (which I dived into after a rotten childhood), and climbing out of alcohol addiction….

The processing, letting go of goals, mental health work, continuous grief, and hanging on as a human through this life when you’ve grown from trauma is exhausting.

But here we are.

I won’t purport to be any kind of life coach, but I get it.

What a ride 🎢 ❤️

So here’s a bunch of inspirational quotes and memes to explain the journey of realisation, self-love, and discovery of self-worth since this ab-tastic photo was taken….

Have a read - hope they help 😘
