Dislocated Utility: Objects out of Place has come to an end.

Over the past ten days, the Waschraum has been filled with objects, conversations and people. It has been wonderful to see how differently visitors responded to the works and to the space itself.

Thank you to every designer and artist who trusted us with their work, to everyone who helped make the exhibition happen, and to all of you who came by, joined a talk or spent time with us. Your warmth and curiosity meant so much.

Set within the former washrooms of the historic SBB railway workshops in Zürich, the exhibition brought together installations and objects that responded to the space.

Presented as part of @ZurichDesignWeeks, it explored how utility, materiality and context shape our relationship with objects and the spaces they inhabit.

#4 Natascha Madeiski @nataschamadeiski

For Dislocated Utility: Objects out of Place, the Waschraum becomes a setting for works that explore how objects, materials and functions shift when placed in a new context, and how these shifts shape our relationship with the spaces they inhabit.

The former washroom still carries the presence of its past use. The shower cabins remain, while the water and daily routines that once gave the space its purpose are long gone.

What remains are worn tiles, surfaces, repairs and marks left by time — traces of its former use that continue to shape the space and the works now placed within it.
