My tulle obsession continues…

I have no idea what this will be but I enjoy the journey and tinkering around. The tulle is actually an amazing electric blue colour. I’ve cut strips and then run the pieces through the sewing machine to include folds, then I gather and hand sew the tulle pieces around a cotton/tulle covered wire structure I prepared earlier. I’ve attached two bare wire pieces in the middle to eventually attach the whole thing to a head band base.

A few cute hats I’ve been wearing lately. Sometimes I wear samples to get a feel of the hat and see other people’s reactions to it. Then I decide what to do with the hat, adjust the shape, make a new shape, add details, select a different colour etc.

The late Carla Zampatti — a legend, an icon, and a force that still resonates today. A very savvy operator across fashion, business and politics.

Her autobiography is nothing short of amazing and left me feeling a bit emotional yet truly inspired. An incredible woman, with an incredible journey who really shaped Australian fashion. She migrated to the rural town of Bullfinch, Western Australia from the small village of Lovero, Italy, not knowing a word of English. Through instinct, drive, determination and resilience she moved to Sydney to start her own fashion label. In the early 70s, she left her first husband and was a single mother. No bank would lend her money, so she borrowed $5k from her cousin to open her own boutique, later establishing a highly successful retail chain and fashion empire.

Back by popular demand myself and @stelioskimonides are hosting another Hats + Wine hands-on workshop for the @melbfoodandwine festival — this time bigger and better!

The 4hr workshop will be held at Steve’s wine making factory where he’ll take you through the wine making process serving free flowing vino from his various vintages, coupled with delicious snacks, and I’ll teach you all about the hat making process.

It’ll be a beautifully curated journey where two incredible crafts come together, creating an afternoon of pure magic! Participants will take home their very own custom hat and two bottles of wine.
