Had a great few days visiting Seattle with @leossteele before school starts tomorrow. Cycled 75 miles around the city through perfect weather and pretty neighbourhoods, and holy moly this place has changed so much over the years. The waterfront and bike trails where there used to be the freeway is an amazing transformation. What a great city. Finally met @karendelucas cat Henry too. by @natashasandmeier

Announcing our Lectures for the 4th Playing Models!
@natashasandmeier
Natasha Sandmeier is an architect, educator, and writer whose work operates at the intersection of architecture, visual storytelling, and speculative worldbuilding. She leads the postgraduate Entertainment Studio and serves as Program Director of the Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design (MSAUD) at UCLA Architecture and Urban Design. From 2022 to 2024, she was Executive Director of the A+D Museum in Los Angeles.
She is the author and editor of Little Worlds (London, 2014), a monograph of projects and essays examining the evolving role of the architect in contemporary culture, and is currently developing a new book titled Tremors and Signals: Field Reports from Possible Futures, an anthology combining speculative fiction, visual inserts, and essays exploring how narrative and worldbuilding might help us make sense of systemic and planetary change.
Sandmeier is a registered architect in the Netherlands and founding partner of the Los Angeles–based design practice Office UR (OUR). She has previously taught at SCI-Arc, the Architectural Association, and the Berlage Institute.

Los Angeles: A Model City opened last night at @aplusd_la! Amazing turnout and thank you to all the participating students and graduates of @cpp_arc @calpoly_lametro @sciarc @uclaaud @uscarchitecture @woodbury_soa!

LOS ANGELES: A MODEL CITY
Los Angeles has always been both a muse and a laboratory. LA is a model city in its own right, where freeway infrastructures, urban strategies, housing models, and the iconic Case Study Houses have carved out a space for experimentation and innovation in the built environment. Each model in the exhibition, sited within the diverse landscape of Los Angeles, is a testament to the city’s enduring role as an incubator for architectural ideas.

Los Angeles: A Model City offers insight into the multifaceted nature of architectural models as tools of innovation and communication. Through curated collection, the exhibition highlights the model as an integral component of architectural and academic discourse, and celebrates Los Angeles as the place within which we explore both the model and the metropolis.

Save the date! LA’s A+D Museum @aplusd_la inaugurates their new Mid City home with exhibition “We Are Here: Imagining Space in the 21st Century,” curated by UCLA AUD’s Laure Michelon @laure_michelon and featuring a range of student, faculty, and alumni work from the UCLA Arts community.

The exhibit opens Friday, January 19, with a 6 pm reception, and is on view through April 7. Click the link in our bio to learn more!

Among the works on view are projects by AUD Vice Chair Kutan Ayata; AUD alumni Deeksha Harish, Yilan Huang, and Jiaqi Kang (all MSAUD ‘23) and David Freeland (MArch ‘04); and UCLA Department of Design Media Arts (DMA) assistant professor Romi Ron Morrison.

“‘We Are Here’ serves as the perfect embodiment of the A+D Museum’s reopening in La Brea,” says Sandmeier, who also leads the postgraduate Entertainment Studio in AUD's Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design (MSAUD) program. “It marks our own Here as we present evocative and experimental work exploring the limitless possibilities of the ways in which we understand and represent place today.” by @natashasandmeier
