Can you spot the differences from the beginning to the end of the year? My locs are so much thicker and fuller now that I’m approaching 2 years this May. I also got a lot of my length back last year, but due to my curly ends it typically looks about the same length as when I started until I stretch my hair out.
.
This year I want to do more styles and simply have more fun with my microlocs so let me know any suggestions you may have that you’d like to see me do. And I will definitely give yall some tutorials on how I started my locs in case you’d like to start your own!

DIY Microlocs FAQs

1. 171 locs
2. Interlocking
3. Wash every 2 weeks, Retie every 5-6 weeks
4. I started & maintain my locs (it took me almost 3 months to install 🥲 but obviously so worth it 🥹🫶🏾)
5. Diluted @sheamoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil clarifying shampoo and aloe vera juice mixed with water and various essential oils to replace conditioner. @alikaynaturals lemongrass spray leave in conditioner for my moisture routine and a homemade oil blend to seal.
6. Loc’d 3.5 Months
7. Literally the whole loc community, but my favs are @imanitaylorgood @tykara.ann @keke.j_ (I originally thought I’d have more locs!)

🥹 Wow it’s been 2 years since the beginning already. As you can see my locs and I have transformed so much within these 2 short years of my journey. After I gave birth I felt I was a new person, still me just a bit different. Becoming a parent taught me the importance of figuring out and knowing exactly who I am so I don’t lose myself in being a parent, partner, and any other role I find myself in. So at the time I decided I needed a change in many ways and starting my loc journey was one of them. I had been feeling disconnected from my hair again after reaching a previous goal of tailbone length. Plus, my anxious thoughts at the time were telling me I was experiencing postpartum shedding when in fact I was not. 🤦🏾‍♀️ in my head it made more sense to loc my hair than to see it fall out if it were going to. In hindsight it made no sense to think that, but on March 6, 2022 I set out on a 2.5 month journey to fully interloc my hair. Everyday of my journey I’m so grateful that I decided to commit to myself in more ways than one. I jumped out on faith and get rewarded each day for that and it ain’t perfect but everything’s beautiful now 🌱✨ hopefully I can inspire you to take a leap for whatever journey you’ve been nervous to begin.

1 & 2: most recent day I was cute AND took pictures of myself 😅
3: May 26, 2022 the day I finished installing the last locs in the front
4: March 9, 2022 checking to see what I had so far. During my installation I would section off and two strand twist each section so I could work on interlocking everything whenever and wherever I wanted since once the parts were in I used my hands to feel and be my eyes.
5: March 6, 2022 3:49am 🫠 newborn lifestyle had me taking advantage of any free time I had. But this was day 1 be nice lol
6: February 25, 2022 a braidout on my last and best silk press that lasted me close to 2 months
7: January 8, 2022 my hair freshly washed after taking out my delivery/postpartum knotless braids I installed myself!

I’m ready for October at this point.
September has been chaotic at best. Through those moments I was still able to somewhat enjoy myself but I’m praying next month will be more peaceful.
Pics in order of occurrence:
1. Natural beauty
2. Those pants should’ve came home with me, but didn’t 🤦🏾‍♀️ ima go back for them though, they’re so cute on me.
3. My girls & I after seeing @chloebailey perform at the Norva
4. In Pieces Tour, you had to be there 🖤
5. The next night K & I were supposed to link with my girl Steph for her birthday but ended up having a date night to ourselves at Pacifica out the oceanfront after plans fell through and we were exhausted after working all day. We looked so good that night.
6. Lady Luck outside our apartment a few days after our car accident. We’re ok and getting better, my car was declared a total loss though.
7. K & I had brunch at Thunderbird in the Massanutten area while on vacation. If you ever visit up there or go to JMU you have to stop by. The place was so cute, gave old diner vibes and the food was smack. We even had lavender lemonade slushies with giant straws.
8. Mountain Views from our balcony at the resort.
9. I actually met one of my neighbors at the end of august and she inspired me to take better care of my plants again so I’ve been repotting a lot of my plants this month and even have some new succulent babies from this plant!
10. I even bought a monstera finally! I can’t wait to watch it get huge over the years! by @natazzjaday
