Nine days back home: i returned home to hawai’i as a much needed reset from california. a way of life so easily consumed by greed, material possessions, and politics. a world my ancestors would not recognize. it’s easy to get swallowed up in it. unconsciously becoming another victim of the endless pursuit chasing more, more, more.

this time back home was different.

i was welcomed back home to crystal clear blue waters, UV10, and a spicy ahi katsu + smoke meat plate lunch from fresh catch. instantly recharged.

it was like my cells remembered.

it was a remembrance of the aloha spirit that was once oxygen me. something i didn’t know i was missing until i returned.

grounding. rejuvenating. breathtaking.

my eyes lit up seeing the ko’olaus as if it was my first time. the greenery, crisp air. familiar places that felt new.

my week here was fruitful.

running into old childhood friends at the beach.
watching friends grow their families and welcome new keiki
nurturing old friendships
visits to the chiropractor
hitting all my favorite food spots
working in the mala with my mom
and rejuvenating beach days with Malik

cup filling activities 🔋

in this midst of it all, i learned so much about surrender. a common theme i tend to face lol.

malik will often say “ I’m just going with the makani (wind)”

this time, i felt it.

i stopped trying to control every detail and let the week unfold. and somehow everything i had hoped to do back home miraculously and effortlessly found its way to me.

was it because i was present? was it a combo of sunny beach days, good food, and high quality convos?

maybe?

whatever it was, i felt so grateful and lucky to call hawai’i home. a place that raised me, shaped me, and compliments the characteristics of the woman i am today.

as i sit on the plane ride back reflecting, I’m carrying this ✨feeling✨back with me to california.

a gentle reminder that home can recharge me. yes. but aloha is something i can carry wherever i go.
