Breaking ground on a new project: the renovation of a classic New England-style estate built in 1895. The goal is to honor the history of this home and preserve the charm while bringing it into the modern day. A true balance of old and new. Stay tuned.

There’s a sense of place woven into every detail of this coastal Maine home.

Another look at our 1907 renovation. This home’s classic coastal charm is really starting to shine. The new trim and fresh cedar shingles are coming along beautifully, and so is the interior. We’ll be sharing a peek inside soon!

You know us for building homes, but we also craft the pieces that make them feel like home.

The team in our Bucksport shop has been working on this beautiful live-edge maple desk, showcasing the skill and craftsmanship that go into everything we do at NHB. Stay tuned for the final reveal!

We're about five months out, and you can finally see how everything is going to come together. We spend a lot of time in the abstract during design, so these site visits are fulfilling as we see the original character of the home get a new layer of polish.

Progress update on our 1895 renovation:

We’ve been preparing the interior by carefully removing the original wall paneling, which will be reinstalled once the new insulation is in place.

Underneath the home, we’ve been getting ready for concrete work. We’ve installed steel beams for reinforcement, allowing us to safely remove rock to make way for the new foundation.

Stay tuned for more updates as we move into the next phase of this project! by @nateholyokebuilders

Firm Principal Carl Carfi and the project team had a full day on site recently up in Maine, meeting with our clients and collaborators to walk through construction progress and get a first look at the mocked-up footprint of a new garage addition.

Watching a project move from drawings to built reality is one of the great satisfactions of this work.

Scaffolding still frames the exterior of our historic restoration and renovation project on Mount Desert Island, but the 1907 house is steadily coming back to life.

Stay tuned to watch the progress.

Completed project: a new building for the Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary in Somesville, Maine.

Situated on 250 acres surrounding Somes Pond, the Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary conducts local wildlife research, offers educational programs to the community, and maintains a network of public recreational trails. Completed in 2025, this new building provides office space and storage for the tools, boats, and equipment needed for the sanctuary’s research and ongoing conservation mission.
